“So, we’re a week away from Stonehaven?” I asked instead.

“Closer to half a week,” Cyrus replied. “About five days. We’ve been pushing our pace.”

I guess I really had been slowing them down. And given how weak and shaky I felt, I doubt they were going to let me walk anytime soon.

Not that I was going to be insisting they let me. I’d already embarrassed myself enough during the fever.

The memory of begging Bishop for sex flashed through me and my cheeks heated.

“Hey,” he said softly. “None of that.” He hooked his finger under my chin and drew my gaze up to his. “Fevers are the worst case scenario for heats. Don’t be ashamed of whatever you remember. You couldn’t control it and none of us judge you for it.”

I glanced at Cyrus, who was now watching me, his expression hard.

“Even if you and Bishop had been mated, Nova still would have sent you to the heat clinic,” he said. “It’s a miracle he got you through as much as he did.”

“And sealing the bond was the only way?” I turned my attention to Knox, but he’d slipped back into the darkness beyond the campfire.

It looked like nothing had changed between us. He was still avoiding me, and while his rejection didn’t threaten my sanity, it still hurt, and I still had a feeling we’d come crashing back together if we didn’t work something out.

Despite being exhausted, I stayed awake long enough to eat a full serving of dinner — which consisted mostly of meat and fresh greens that the guys had picked up while walking.

Then I drifted off, wrapped in a blanket and Bishop’s arms, and was tossed through a lurching montage of having sex with Bishop — sex that wasn’t like our soft sweet joining that had been perfect for my first time.

The dreams ended with Knox capturing my mouth and body and sealing our bond with a golden blaze, a resounding gong, and a soul-shattering orgasm.
