CHAPTER5

RUSLAN

Sitting across from Osip later in the morning, I watch him as I wait for his reaction. I wait for him to say something to me. I don’t know what I expect from him, but I need something.Anything. He stands, turning his back to me, then walks over to the window and stares ahead.

“What the fuck have you done?” he asks.

“Rostam knows,” I state.

He hums. I didn’t show him the pictures, there was no need for that, but he knows the basics. Osip turns around slowly, his eyes finding mine. He doesn’t say anything right away, his eyes focusing on mine.

“This could ruin the quiet alliance we have,” he says.

Nodding my head, I clear my throat. “It could,” I agree. “I didn’t know. It’s not like I purposely did any of this. I knew she was hiding something, but I didn’t know what. Had no clue it was this.”

“Call him, set up a meet with me there. I need to know what he wants from this. He came to you, showed you the evidence for a reason.”

“He did,” I agree. “I’m interviewing girls this afternoon, so hopefully he can meet earlier rather than later.”

“You need more girls already?” Osip asks, his brows rising.

My lips twitch into a small smile. “I do,” I say with a chuckle. “Not for any other reason than the business is growing. I’ve got more clients than they can handle. Business is booming.”

Osip chuckles. “I didn’t know if this was going to work out, butfuck, it’s really become lucrative, hasn’t it?” he asks. Nodding my head, I don’t verbally answer him, instead, I take my phone out and text Rostam.

NEED TO MEET.

It doesn’t surprise me that my phone rings immediately after I press send, instead of him sending me a text back. Osip’s brow lifts and I shrug a shoulder as I laugh and slide my thumb across the screen but touch the speaker icon so that Osip can hear it all.

“When would you like to have this?” he asks.

“As soon as possible.”

“Come to my office,” he demands.

Looking up to Osip, he dips his chin in a nod. He agrees to this, and I’m surprised. Osip isn’t one to have any kind of meeting in someone else’s territory, but this isn’t really a business deal. At least, it’s not primarily a business deal. I have a feeling that Rostam has some kind of plan, otherwise he wouldn’t have even researched or brought the information to me.

“We are on our way,” I state.

Rostam ends the call, then I watch as Osip gathers his things off of his desk. “Let’s do this. I want to take Zinaida to lunch.”

I let out a chuckle, standing as well. “I would like to get a few hours of sleep before I go to the club tonight.”

“No sleep?” he asks.

“Haven’t been to bed yet. This was a bit more important.”

Osip grunts, jerking his chin. “It was,” he agrees. “Let’s go.”

I follow him, in my own car, knowing that right after this, I am taking my ass home. As I drive, I start to think about how I met Isabel. It was happenstance. She was standing in line at my favorite Russian deli. I go there for the pirozkis.

I couldn’t just leave her there and not say something. A five-minute conversation was all I needed. The look in her eyes, the blush of her cheeks, and I knew that she wanted more—that I wanted more. I asked her out for coffee the next day. She agreed, and we fucked after we finished our first cappuccino together.

Pulling into the parking lot, I guide my car beside Osip and shift it into drive before I touch the button to kill the engine. Whatever the fuck Rostam wants, the reason he showed me this information, the reason he had Isabel followed, I’m going to find it all out now.

Opening the door, I unfold from the car and look over to Osip, who does the same. He jerks his chin, and together we walk toward the front of the building. It’s quiet inside, too quiet. The staff’s not anywhere in sight, probably a good thing considering who we are and who he is.

Better not to start any fucking tongues wagging.
