Elizabeth chuckled and ate some soup. “Is this the only castle you own?”

“No, I have seven more,” he answered, keeping his expression serious, and her eyes widened. “They are in another gallery on the second floor. Would you like to see all of them after dinner?”

“Rhys!” She poked his shoulder, laughing. “I thought you were in earnest.”

“They are very small. I made one. Mayton made another, and I collected the others during my travels.”

“You must have had quite an adventure during your travels.”

“I did. I will tell you all about them at another time.”

“Why not now?” she protested as a footman removed her finished first course and introduced the main, lobster with vegetables and the creamy white sauce Rhys loved.

“Now, I want to hear your thoughts on the Castle, and how your afternoon went. Did you meet Cook?” He watched her eat a bite of lobster. She closed her eyes in relish, and he loved what graced his eyes.

She did not answer his question until she had eaten several bites of her food, and Rhys delighted in every sound she made. Dabbing at her lips with her napkin, she nodded. “Mrs. Carter introduced us, and this food is wonderful. I wanted to compliment him the first time, but I was…distracted.” Her cheeks colored beautifully, and she looked away. “Many things happened.”

“Which brought us to where we are now,” he whispered, placing a finger under her chin, and turning her face toward his. Their gaze held, and he could not imagine being married to any other woman. His body knew what was meant to be his before his mind did. “Where we are supposed to be,” he added before leaning to kiss her.

“Well!” His grandmother’s voice interrupted them. “It appears I arrived just in time for dinner.”

Devil be damned! He looked up to see her standing in the dining room doorway.
