“I did not think of that,” he confessed. “I supposed I was blinded trying to protect you.”

“I understand.” Elizabeth wrapped her arms around his neck and held him close. “I have angered people, too, Rhys. They might not be afteryouas you might think.”

Rhys shuddered. “Perhaps.”

“We face them together,” she reassured him even though she knew that was not what he wanted to hear because he wanted her away from all of this. “Do you understand?”

He drew back and looked down at her. “Yes, I do.”

“We might have to travel to London.”

“The center of the storm?” He regarded her with deeply furrowed brows.

“To hunt the monster, one might have to enter his den.”

“Or draw him out,” he countered. “I do not want you in London, Elizabeth.” She was going to argue when he held a finger against her lips. “Let us use every option we have before we go to London.”

“Very well.” Rhys drew her back into his arms as something gnawed at her senses. There was more. He had not told her everything, and that frightened her more than what he had told her.
