Jaz answered immediately. ‘Hi, hun.’

‘How are you getting on with your new job?’ Holly asked.

‘Fine. What I want to know is, how are you?’

‘Ethan and I worked on the plans for the arts hub yesterday. It was amazing, they really came to life. You should see them.’

‘Yeah, yeah. He showed you his sketches. Did he kiss you?’

‘Jaz, please.’

‘You never did? You didn’t stay the night? Did you?’

Holly paused.

‘You mucky mare,’ Jaz said.

‘For goodness’ sake. I’m not about to jump into bed with anyone at this moment in my life. We had a nice evening, that’s all. I stayed in the spare room. Nothing else to tell.’

‘Okay. But did he try it on?’

Holly flashed back to the awkward kiss with Ethan.

‘Hello? Liverpool to Holly?’

‘Just a peck.’

‘I knew it. And?’

‘And nothing.’

‘Come on, tell me. Hot? Passionate? Sloppy? Sexy? Details, please.’

Holly thought of the kiss. There had been no fireworks. But not all kisses were like that, were they? Fireworks never went off whenever she had kissed Tom, either. It’d been comforting at a time when she was lonely.

‘You still there? You keep going quiet.’

‘I’m not in the right frame of mind for a relationship, Jaz. Ethan’s great, but –’

There was a knock at the caravan door.

‘Sorry, Jaz, someone’s here. I’ll call tonight. What’s the best time?’

‘Seven.’

Holly ended the call, placing the phone on the table. She walked to the caravan window. It was Mitch.
