He pinned me between his body and the table, pressing against me from behind as he slammed the papers down next to the laptop. A pen appeared in front of me.
“Sign,” he hissed in my ear, his breath washing over me once more and almost making me vomit.
I took the pen from him with a shaking hand, but instead of signing on the dotted line, I rammed the pointy end straight into the back of his hand where it was resting on the table.
His scream almost deafened me as he recoiled, staggering backward and cradling his hand, which was now pouring with blood. “You fucking bitch! I’m going to—”
I didn’t wait to hear what he was going to do, taking off toward the door. I wasn’t fast enough. I yelped as he grabbed a handful of my hair, causing me to rebound back into him. I twisted, somehow extricating myself and sprinting for the door again. I tried to slam it in his face, but it just bounced off him as he came barreling inside, hitting me and sending me sprawling onto the floor.
Scrambling to my feet, I ran for the downstairs bathroom, snatching my phone from the kitchen counter on my way past. I bolted the door behind me and sank to the floor with my back against it. Holding up my phone, I saw I had multiple missed calls from Adam. My hands were shaking so badly I could barely dial his number.
“Belle?” Adam’s frantic voice reached me.
“Adam! He’s here! Robert’s here!” I sobbed.
“I know. Tasha called Molly, who contacted Travis. I turned around as soon as I got the call. Where are you? Has he hurt you?” he demanded, a dangerous note in his voice I’d never heard before.
“N-No. I managed to get away from him, locked myself in the bathroom, but he’s in the house, Adam! I—”
I screamed as Robert pounded on the door at my back. “Open this fucking door, Belle, or I swear to God, I’ll break the damned thing down!” he yelled.
“Fuck!” Adam’s curse reached me down the line. “I’m two minutes away, sweetheart, and the police are on their way. Just stay calm, baby. I’m almost there!”
