She scanned both guys again. "Wow." She turned back to me. "How do you like living with a guy?"

"He's usually a good roommate. I'm just... struggling."

"Why? Do you have feelings for him?"

I made a face.

"Damn. You falling for a jock... I never saw that coming."

"He's not a jock. He's majoring in software engineering, and from what I can tell, he's a damned genius."

Ebony's eyebrows lifted upward. "And he looks like that? Shit. Girl, scoop him up." She glanced at the guys again. "Is his friend single?"

My lips lifted in a slight smile. "No. Sorry." From what I knew, the werewolves didn't date.

"Dammit. If he gets single, tell me."

I nodded.

"So what's the problem, then? You're a hot nerd, he's a hot nerd... Seems like a recipe for a successful relationship."

"I'm not sure his feelings for me are real," I admitted, lowering my voice so I could be sure Jesse and Ford didn't hear me.

She frowned. "You think he just wants in your pants?"

I shook my head. "No. I think he only wants me because I'm there and available."

Ebony nodded. "I can understand that. But I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing."

I wasn't sure what she was trying to say.

"Whenever two people fall in love, they only do so because they both show up for each other. If he shows up for you and you show up for him, why does anything else matter?"

I bit my lip. "But what if I feel more for him than he does for me?"

"Someone has to be the one who loves more." She shrugged. "As long as you've got respect and loyalty, why does it matter who loves who more? A relationship isn't a contest."

Well, I guess that made sense.

The topic shifted to our classes, and we talked about professors and exams until Ebony said her time was up. She thanked me for dinner, and we walked to her car together.

"I miss you, you know. If you ever want to come back to the dorm room, you know it's still yours too," she said, hugging me tightly.

"I know." I gave her a faint smile. "But I'm happy where I am."

"Good," she said simply, then slid into her car. "Let's do this again next week."

"Wednesday night?" I checked.

She nodded, and it was set in stone.

I considered going back into the sub shop, but then decided I wanted the extra time in the car, alone with my thoughts.
