My fingers began to rub at his head a little bit. “Lick me if you hear something you like, and I’ll go through the alphabet, okay? Adam, Bob, Craig, Davy, Eri—”

A lick on the inside of my wrist cut me off.

“Eric?” I checked.

He shook his head, brushing my fingers over his fur in the process.

“Davy?”

He flashed me a toothy grin.

Sheesh, those bitches looked sharp.

“Davy it is.” I scratched his head lightly, and he snuggled up closer. “I wonder how long you’re going to hunt me, since you undoubtedly already know that I’ve been looking for a werewolf mate. Honestly, I’m surprised you haven’t bitten me yet. Not in a bad way though—feel free to take your time. Might as well enjoy the experience, right?” I rambled.

He licked the inside of my wrist again.

After a few minutes of silence, I picked Dax’s phone back up. I bit my lip as my finger hesitated over one button in particular—his messages.

I knew I probably shouldn’t snoop, but… I couldn’t resist. I wanted to know what Dax had said about me, so I could be ready to figure out what I really felt about the fact that we were pretty much afterthought-mates.

So, I pulled up Dax’s messages.

The top few were the pack’s group message, and messages with a couple of random guys that were probably the ones he’d set up to meet me in the restaurant.

Rather than snooping through those messages, I went right to the search bar at the top of the app.

I was definitely going to hell for this.

After glancing at the wolf, who stared at me from directly beside me, I typed my name in quickly.

Sabrina.

An assload of messages popped up.

My heart started to beat like crazy, but I clicked on the top one.

Dax: Hey, there’s a human girl in town who wants a werewolf mate. If you meet her, she’ll set you up with a handful of human chicks to talk to so you can see if they’re yours.

Hayden: What?

Hayden: Is she insane?

Dax: A little.

My stomach clenched.

Hayden: Is she hot?

Rather than answering, Dax sent a picture of me. It was my profile picture from Facebook; he had never friended me on the social media site, or bothered to accept the request I’d sent him.

Hayden: Cute, I guess. Alright, I’ll meet her. When?

Dax gave him the information, and didn’t mention me again.

I navigated to the next conversation that had me in it.

Dax had copied and pasted his previous message.
