Me: We’re living together, yes.

Dad: Then I’ll be there in the morning.

“Dammit,” I groaned, collapsing against Dax. He chuckled, wrapping his arms around me.

“I can have my parents come over for breakfast too if you want. They’ll gush about both of us enough to distract your dad for a bit.”

Relief relaxed me. “That would work. Maybe he wouldn’t be so pissed if they softened him up first.”

Dax nodded. “They’d be thrilled to offer him a guest room to stay in, too.”

I snorted. “Oh, my dad doesn’t do guest rooms. He’ll have already rented a hotel room nearby.”

“It’ll be a long drive in, then. We don’t have hotels here,” Dax warned.

“Why do you say that like it’s a bad thing?” I countered.

He chuckled, his arms still securely wrapped around me. It was really, really nice.

“We’ve got more time to talk and hang out before tomorrow. Let me call my mom really quick, to confirm breakfast, and then you can ask me every question you can think of. Deal?”

My heart warmed a bit. “Deal.”
