“Don’t,” Lizzy protested weakly, though she was still grinning.

I launched into the story, fighting laughter while I explained how we’d hauled ass out of the coffee shop and hidden behind Charly’s truck.

Laughter and conversation went through the room as the food continued to cook in the kitchen. The men’s voices in the other room was soothing, somehow, and I found myself relaxing more the longer we were there.

I still didn’t feel completely at home with the pack, but I also didn’t think they hated me or disliked me.

Actually, they treated me the same way they had before I became a part of the pack.

I guess maybe I’d expected more to change when I met my furry soulmate. Maybe my expectations had been a bit too romantic, a bit too… unrealistic.

But I was there now, and I was enjoying it. Eventually, the pack would feel like family, and that would be more than enough.
