EPILOGUE
DAX—10 MONTHS LATER
“Holy fuck,”I breathed, staring down at the baby in my mate’s arms. Sabrina was sweaty, her eyes dazed, and the epidural in her spine full of meds strong enough that she probably wasn’t even feeling the contractions of the afterbirth.
“They said the ultrasound wasn’t necessary,” Sabrina murmured, staring down at the little one in her arms in shock. Her cheek lowered to the baby’s head, and her eyes closed as a look of utter bliss and gratitude crossed her face. The snuggle lasted a minute, before she turned and pressed her lips to the baby’s forehead. “A girl—a female werewolf.”
“The first werewolf to be born female. Ever,” the nurse admitted, her voice soft and just as shocked as the rest of us.
“She’s perfect,” Sabrina whispered.
“Just like you.” My hand brushed gently over my mate’s forehead. “You did so good, baby.”
“So did you.” Her eyes watered, and her lips brushed our baby’s forehead once, and then again. “Guess that damned magic in my blood was good for something after all.”
“Something incredible, and unique, and fucking miraculous,” I growled back, leaning over Sabrina so I could press my lips to our baby’s forehead again, and again. She was so tiny, and so soft—and so fucking perfect.
And despite everything we had been through at the beginning of our mating, despite the fear, and the stress, and the pain, I knew we would both suffer it a thousand times again if we had to, to get to where we were right in that moment.
In the hospital, with our baby.
Holding each other while so fucking in love we could hardly breathe straight, with a baby in our arms that we’d created together.
“I want to call her Amy. Short for Amelia,” Sab whispered. “That was my mom’s name.”
“I love it.” I kissed the baby’s head, and then snagged my mate’s lips. “And I love you.”
Her lips quirked upward. “I know.”
There wasn’t one thing I’d change about that moment, even if I could.
We were together, as a couple, as a team, as a family, and that was everything.
