“Do you kiss all your friends’ ex-girlfriends?” Her words were cutting, but the tone was warm-hearted. She picked up her coffee, and with one last sip, she plonked the cup on the floor beside her.

“Only the hot ones.”

She reared her head and burst out laughing. I placed my hand on the back of her head, entwining my fingers in her hair. I pulled her to me as my other hand rested on her cheek. She gazed at me for a moment. She leaned forward and her mouth gently touched mine. I hummed as I closed my eyes at her soft kisses and her light breathing.

“Mm,” she lightly moaned. My dick twitched as my tongue slicked against hers, hardening so much it ached, and I stopped and pulled away. I needed to calm this down for one second.

We stared at each other for a beat, but now I wanted more, more of her, and more than sweet kisses.

I hesitated, but not long enough. Lacey pushed her lips on mine. My fingers slowly caressed her soft skin as my tongue licked her lips, waiting for them to part. Her fingers delved into my neck, pulling me closer as we kissed, with our tongues sliding together, and we deepened the kiss as our mouths crashed harder together.

I caressed her cheek with my thumb, lowering it to her bottom lip, and stared into her eyes for a moment. She gazed back, her eyes glazed. Before we both knew it, our lips were together again and this time we were all mouth, teeth and tongues and there was nothing sweet about the kiss. And there was nothing sweet about her fingernails as they ran across my neck and I felt the heat inside me rise and I knew she felt it too as she moaned into my mouth. One hand gripped her thigh. I hadn’t felt this turned on since… I don’t think I’d ever felt this turned on.

I moved my head to her neck, kissing and nibbling below her ear as I stroked her smooth thigh a little higher than I should, but I couldn’t stop because as much as should slow this down, I couldn't.

She broke away from the kiss, and I gazed at her for a few moments. Her eyes glanced down at my hand on her thigh. That one brief look let me know I’d gone too far. “Sorry,” I said.

Smiling, she took hold of my hand and squeezed, and we relaxed in silence for a few minutes.

“I never expected you to kiss like that,” she said. Her eyebrows rose, her pink cheeks glowed.

My head reared back as I laughed. “Did you think I’d be a pecker?”

Lacey smiled and shook her head.

“I’m nothing like I look,” I said.

Her eyes narrowed, and although I knew what I meant, that conversation was definitely for another day. She sat up straighter, leaning her neck on the bench and tilted her head back as she took in the last rays of the sun as it glowed with a rose gold blush, preparing itself for the sunset.

“Do you believe Carter when he says it never happened?” I asked.

She shrugged a shoulder. “But then I have to find out why someone felt the need to plant the thought in my head,” she said. There was a rush of pain in her face, a silent sigh, and her eyes looked as though she carried a secret. I couldn’t explain. And I knew I’d have to talk to Carter because I had a feeling there was something he wasn’t telling us. She shook her head as she sighed. I took hold of her hand and stroked the top with my thumb. “Because that night I lost everything,” she said as she stared into the distance as she spoke, not glancing at me once. It was like she was in her own space and reliving the night. “I was going to give him everything…” Her finger ran over her lips. “And now I’ve got nothing left to give.”

“What do you mean, Lacey?” I wanted her to turn to face me, but she looked ahead. “Lacey.”

She finally turned to me, and I could see the sadness on her face. “Love… I think my heart stopped working properly. I feel nothing. In fact, it’s like I don’t have a heart, that there is nothing inside me ticking in the way it should for someone. It’s like I’m all jumbled up and confused. Like I’m not real.”

Her words cut through me like shattered glass. Here I was thinking I could win her heart, but that bastard had ruined her for everyone else. “He is sorry.” The last three words came out choked. I never wanted her to believe anything other than what she did. I wanted her for myself and having Carter out of the picture made it so much easier.

She shrugged her shoulders. “Not just that, the entire night. As sorry as he might be, he can’t bring my parents back and he can’t put me in the car with them.”

“You wished you died?” I blinked hard. I didn’t know what else to say.

Chapter 15

Carter

Iwaitedoutsidetheballet school for Lacey to turn up. Ryan said he wanted to speak to me before I left, because he’d had a conversation with her but I was desperate to see her today and wanted to get here early as It seemed ballet was the only time she gave me. I tried everything over the last three weeks, tried speaking to her, sent her flowers and a birthday card. I still didn’t know how I could win back the girl whose heart I broke. She still didn’t believe me, but it wouldn’t stop me.

My desperation to have her back was getting worse since seeing her with Jack and Blake and then hearing she had more dates with them had me raging inside. Especially as I knew she was doing it to wind me up, and she was doing a perfect job.

And as much as I didn’t think Lacey was a threesome type of girl, seeing her sat between Jack and Blake was like a bullet to my heart.

They were potential knights, but she must realise they wanted more, that they were trying to make her their new girl. Though I hoped after Lacey left the pub, they’d have found someone else and I was glad when they left with Polly, but I now knew that Polly was only a friend of the two men.

The roar of a motorbike sounded behind me and I spun as she came blasting into the car park, before the motorbike halted to a stop outside the entrance. She flipped the stand down and paused for a moment as she took her helmet off.

I wondered which Lacey I’d see today because she went from being quiet and I was sure her heart was battered from the loss she felt and I knew how much she hurt but she would slip so easily in the opposite direction, as she flirted like crazy as she pretended she was the happiest person in the world.
