Finally, Sarah added, “Well, maybe you could help her with that?” With several quick taps across her phone, she copied and pasted Alana’s phone number and sent it over to her father.

Jeremy gaped at the number. He wanted to protest. Sarah clapped her hand over his shoulder and whispered, “Just give it a try, huh? It won’t hurt to put yourself out there. Especially because she already knows you. The bad parts and the sort-of good parts.”

Jeremy snorted. “Gee. Thanks.”

“Any time,” Sarah said with a vibrant laugh.

As she walked away, Jeremy saved the number in his phone, his heart pounding. Back in the old days, he’d had the number of The Copperfield House memorized, locked away in the storage bank of his mind. Those memorization skills didn’t matter any longer.

But he had it. He had her current number.

Would he ever use it? Time would tell.
