He looks back and forth between my

eyes, and his grip on my hand tightens the slightest bit.

"I was wondering, Piper, would

you want to…"

"Hey Piper, are you

ready?"

Titus interrupts as if on cue. I

look at him, then pull my hand away from Chance.

"Yes, I am." I glance back

at Chance. "Sorry."

He runs his hand through his hair.

"Yeah, no worries. I'll see ya around."

I nod before turning and following

Titus to the back. I set my purse on the small table, then look around. There's

only one other artist here, and by the looks of it, he's almost done.

"Quiet here today."

"Yeah, most of the artists

leave early on Thursdays. It's our slowest day."

"Oh, I would’ve thought Monday

would be slow."

"You would think so." He

pulls the chair close to him, pats the cushion as if tell me to sit, then puts

the hand rest thing next to it.

I get comfortable in the chair and

lay my hand across the stand.

"These look much nicer than I

expected they would."

"Why's that? I took care of

them correctly."

"Hand tattoos tend to heal funky,

depending on what the person does for a living."

"Oh, gotcha."
