Then he's gone. I lay back down, pulling the pillow he was lying on against my chest, tucking my face into it and breathing in his scent. I close my eyes, but that's when the panic sinks in.

I'm sure that call was legit. Why would he have someone call him to have him leave in the middle of the night? Was he awake the whole time? That's what girls do, right? They send an SOS text to their friend for them to call and get them out of a bad date.

Stop, Piper! He isn't Night. He's the complete opposite. Have a little faith.

Thesunisshining on my face when I wake up. I forgot to close the blinds. Obviously, I was a little preoccupied.

I reach for my phone on the nightstand to see the text I get from Titus every morning, but it's not there.

I knew it. It was too good to be true. I toss my phone to the end of the bed, wrap myself in my comforter, and leave my room.

The smell of bacon overwhelms me as I walk down the steps and into the kitchen where Kelly is, dancing to 90s hip hop and making breakfast. I walk over to the island and stand there, waiting for the song to end.

"Good morning, Kelly."

She turns with her hand on her chest. "Oh gosh, you startled me. Good morning. You hungry?"

"Starving."

She looks at me from the corner of her eye as she turns back around.

"I bet you are."

"Don't, please." I drop my head.

"Wait. What's wrong? Did your date flop?"

"No. It was actually quite entertaining."

"Okay, do tell."

"Well, we went to go play putt-putt but ran into Night."

"Oh, shit!." She lays fried eggs and a few strips of bacon on two plates before giving me one. "Did Night say something?"

"The wrong thing. Titus hit him. He knocked him out."

Her eyes grow wide as she takes a bite of bacon. "Holy shit!"

"Yeah, but I mean, he kinda deserved it."

"One hundred percent. So, then what happened?"

"We came here instead of playing and watched a movie, but we didn't finish the movie." A small grin seeps through the hurt and confusion I am feeling.

"Yes, girl. I can only imagine what that man is like in bed." She waves her face with her hand.

I take a few bites before I answer her. "It was a new experience, to say the least."

"I won't ask for details, but why are you moping around?"

"He left in the middle of the night."

"WHAT?!"

"He got a call from the security company. I guess something made the alarm go off, so he had to leave."

"Okay. What's wrong with that?"
