Chapter Seven

Grayson

MY MOM NEEDED ME to help move furniture into her house today, so Olivia covered for me for the first couple hours of my shift. I hated to ask her, but I also didn’t want to tell my mom no after I have been such a slacker.

“Hey Olivia, thanks for covering for me.” I say to her as I swing the half door that leads to the back bar.

“No problem. It’s not like Lenard and his buddies are hard to take care of.”

I laugh. She goes to the back room and grabs her stuff before leaving.

“See ya Gray.”

“Bye”

I look over to the old men sitting there chatting. Lenard in the same blue hat, drinking the same drink and smiling.

“Grayson” I jump and turn when I hear Gennies voice.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you,” she says

“You’re good. What’s up?”

“There is going to be a new girl coming in about an hour.”

I let out a huff and roll my eyes.

“I told you I can handle it. I’m fine.”

“And I told you that was your last chance, then you forgot about the delivery. I have to do what’s best for this bar.”

“I understand” I nod my head and drop my hands.

“Her name is Riley.”

“Riley? Do I know her?”

“No, she isn’t from here and she’s only temporary, for the summer.”

“Alright.”

Temporary. Great. I love having to teach someone how to do this job, just for them to leave. Not many people like the long hours, or the people who get rude and rowdy when they drink.

An hour later the bell over the door rings and I look up to see someone, who definitely looks like she doesn’t belong.

She’s maybe 5’4, her bright red hair is tossed on top of her head in a messy bun, she has so many necklaces and bracelets on, I don’t understand how it’s comfortable. She’s wearing a t-shirt that hangs off one shoulder and is tucked into bright red shorts.

Her legs are covered is wide fishnet stocking, and she’s wearing black velvet boots.

“You must be the new girl,” I say to her as she comes up to the bar.
