“Yeah, I know.”

“Right, duh ha.”

“What’s up?”

“You know how I have been all out of sorts?”

“That might be putting it lightly, but yes.”

“I talked to my mom, and I think I need a vacation.”

The line is silent for a few seconds. Then she says,

“I agree.”

“Really? You do?”

“Yes, I do. Something needs to change and maybe some time away is what you need.”

“I think it might be.”

“How soon are you leaving?”

“I’m hoping I can leave tomorrow, if not the next day.”

“Ok. No biggie. I have a slew of applications here of people who need work. Shouldn’t be too hard to get someone to cover for you.”

“Thank you, Gennie.”

“No problem at all. Have a fun time. Bring me back a souvenir.”

I laugh, “Will do. Bye.”

“Bye.”

I hang up the phone, grab my computer, and get to work booking my flight and hotel.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Grayson

FORTY-EIGHT HOURS LATER, AND I am on a flight to Florida. My nerves? Calm, actually. I’m pleasantly surprised.

The flight is pretty long though, with two layovers, but that’s what you get when you book last minute, I suppose.

Thankfully, I have a good book and headphones to keep me busy. After my last plane lands, it’s dark outside and I am exhausted. I go to the rental counter and get the keys to my rental a Jeep. Then I drive the ten miles to my hotel. I don’t bother unpacking; I strip down and as soon as my head hits the pillow, I’m out.

The next morning, I wake up way later than I had wanted to, but with the time difference, really, I’m right on time.

I take my time showering and unpacking some items I’ll need right away. Then I head downstairs for the hotel’s continental breakfast. I may have saved up for this trip, but who’s gonna say no to free food?

I stop and look at the shelf of brochures on my way to breakfast and grab the one about Cypress Boardwalk. I didn’t look at anything online besides where I needed to fly into and stay. Once I get my food I sit and open the brochure.
