“I’ve done my research. I know they are messy and loud. But their little feather butt waddle makes it all worth it.” I move my hands in a way that mimics feathers on a duck’s butt, swaying back and forth.
“And the way their little feet’s sound on a hardwood deck.” I can feel my face light up and I let a giddy laugh pass my lips.
“Maybe I can take you to meet my mom's ducks.”
My smile instantly slips, and my brows pinch together when I look at him.
“How would you do that?”
“My parents live in Montana.” He takes a drink of his coffee and when the cup leaves his lips, his tongue wipes away any remaining liquid from his bottom lip. Fuck.
“Wait. You’re from Montana?”
“Sure am.”
I pause for a moment.
“So, you’re just making a big circle.”
He scrunches his brows together, pulls his head back, and looks confused.
“This trip. You’re from there and then you’re ending it there. A circle.”
“Yeah, I guess. I never looked at it like that.”
“Cool.” I eat another bite of my muffin and wash it down with coffee.
Chris folds the bed back into the couch and grabs the remote before taking a seat. The TV has twenty channels and most of them are news about the weather.
“Looks like we have the options of, weather, weather, news with weather, or old cartoons.”
“I could watch old cartoons.”
He flips the channels back andCodename: Kids Next Doorstarts playing.
“I loved this show as a kid.” I lean back into the headboard and pull the blanket up.
“I did too,” Chris says.
We sit in silence for an entire episode before I need to get up and move around. I walk to the window, into the bathroom, out of the bathroom, to the door and back to the window.
“You good?”
“Yeah, I’m just not used to not working and having so much free time.”
“Where do you work?”
“I’m a librarian," I tell him as I climb into bed.
Chris bites his bottom lip and nods his head. “I can see that.”
“Oh, really? How’s that?”
“Well, it could be the five books that are sticking out of your luggage.”
“Maybe I just like reading.”
“Touché, but you have a hot librarian vibe.”
