After they are done speaking, everyone disperses. Chris comes over to me.

“Do you think you will make it tonight? I would hate to not have you there. I’ll carry you if you need me to.”

I shake my head, but the smile on my face is permanent now.

“Actually, I’ve been moving it around. I think I just rolled it, and it needed to rest. Which you made sure I did.”

He nods his head once.

“Do you want to try to walk on it?”

“I think so.”

Chris helps me out of the van, and I carefully put pressure on my foot. I take a few steps. While it is a little stiff from not moving for a bit, the pain isn’t that bad.

“It’s not too bad. I don’t think I injured it badly.”

Chris sweeps me up into his arms, and I gasp.

“I can walk.”

“Maybe it needs a little more rest.” He winks at me and after an entire month of getting to know this man, I know what that look, that tone, and that wink means. He can’t get me back to my room fast enough.

Chapter 27

Sarah

Chrishaddessertbeforehis dinner. I giggle internally, while my cheeks heat, knowing I have those kinds of thoughts now. My sex life was so G-rated before this trip.

“I can’t wait to introduce you to my friends. Well, except Troy. He has to help his grandparents with something.”

“I’m excited to meet them. They all sound like really great people.”

He threads his fingers through mine as we walk down to the restaurant. This time, I don’t even glance down; I want his hand there more than anything.

He kisses the side of my head, and I notice that the butterflies have calmed down a bit. I still get this feeling of excitement whenever I am with him and he does the sweetest things, like forehead kisses, but it all feels so comfortable now.

We join everyone in a big area of the restaurant. Mostly everyone is here, but who knows who will join us afterwards. After our orders are taken, we all chat. I get to talking to Megan, a woman who also lives in Pennsylvania. She’s in her late thirties with long dark hair and the most amazing hazel eyes I have ever seen. She’s stunning. We chat about the birds we have saw, where we have seen them and even make plans for a few weeks to meet up in one of the bigger cities.

“I had a feeling something was going on between you two.”

My cheeks flair again.

“Really?”

“You must have not been looking the first day.”

I cock my head slightly and lean in a little. “What happened the first day?”

“When you got yourself to the front of that crowd, and he looked down at you, he looked like a deer in headlights. Then, after he finally pulled his focus from you to speak, he made circles with his eyes around the crowd, not stopping on anyone until they came back to you.”

“I guess I wasn’t paying attention.” I think for a second. “That’s right. We made eye contact and I looked away as fast as I could and texted a friend of mine to tell her I was there.”

“I think it’s great that you two found each other. Do you think it’s something?”

“I’m not sure. He has a life here, and I have a life back in Pennsylvania. I don’t know how that would work.”

“He loves you,” she nods her head and has a knowing look about her.
