“That’s right.”

They are getting married on Chris’s parents’ property. They have a beautiful view of the mountains. And Sarah has made it clear that no one is to walk down the middle aisle. The snow needs to stay pristine.

She hasn’t really been neurotic about the wedding, except for that. She wants to walk down the aisle on untouched snow. Apparently, it will look amazing in the pictures. Makes sense, I guess.

“Where is Chris?”

“He had to help Troy move some things out of the barn so they can set up for the reception first thing in the morning.”

“Jeez, way to wait till the last minute.”

“Chrissy!”

“What? I didn’t say anything.”

“You told me you would be nice.”

“I am being nice.” I smile at her and cock my head. “That is so sweet of Troy to help Chris with such a huge undertaking.”

Sarah rolls her eyes then looks at me and shakes her head.

“I can’t with you.”

“Love you too, bitch.”

We lounge around most of the day. Sarah goes over my schedule with me for while she is away. Then we do a little cleaning up in the kitchen and living room before heading out to her soon to be in-laws’ house.

The rehearsal doesn’t take long, and everything goes exactly as Sarah planned. Now, let’s hope we can all do it again tomorrow.

The dinner is more like a feast. You would think it’s Christmas dinner with all the food they’ve made. Ham, turkey, rolls, homemade cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, green bean casserole with bacon on it, and too many vegetables to count. I load my plate and sit next to my bestie. She makes small talk with everyone around us, and I get a pinch of jealousy in my stomach. Even if I were to move here, it wouldn’t be the same. She’s going to have a husband; she has the bookstore, and her tiny farm, and eventually, she’s going to have children.

I let myself wallow in my pity for a few seconds before I snap myself out of it and finish my dinner. By the end of the night, I’ve met Chris’s entire extended family, plus multiple other families from around the area that know him.

“I’m exhausted,” Sarah says, as she gets into her car to take us home.

Chris is staying at his mom’s tonight. You know, not allowed to see the bride and all.

“Same. My stomach is so full I don’t think I’ll need to eat for twenty-four hours at least.”

We both laugh. This is her last night as a “free” woman, and we are going to…go home and go to bed. Why risk it?

“Chrissy,Chrissy,Chrissy,”Ihear Sarah yelling down the hall before she busts into my room. I sit up quickly.

“What? What’s wrong?”

She comes in and swings the drapes open.

“Look, it’s snowing!” She does a little happy dance and giggles. Only she would be happy about it snowing on her wedding day.

“You scared me.” I put my hand on my chest and stand next to her at the window.

“You ready to become Mrs. Olsen?”

“More than ever.”

The day is a whirlwind. Checking in with the rental company for the chairs and tables, the caterer, the bakery, the flower delivery, and so on. When it is finally time to get dressed, I am more than ready to not be on my phone anymore. I turn it off and stash it in my purse. In the room are Sarah’s mom, Chris’s mom, and me.

“Are you gals ready?” Sarah asks us.
