“See ya next time, Sharkbait.”

Back inside, I refill the cookie cabinet, add water to the coffee machine, click the open sign on then unlock the door. As I walk back to the counter, my phone dings.

Ethan: Can I take you to dinner this Friday?

Me: I would like that.

Ethan: Great. Is there a certain type of food you prefer?

Me: Well that depends.

Ethan: On what?

Me: Do you want to stay in town or is going a couple towns over an option? Somewhere with more variety.

Ethan: I will take you wherever you want to go.

I squeal, thankful there is no one in the store to see me acting like a love-struck schoolgirl.

Me: Okay. There’s a poke bowl place I love but hardly ever go to. They have the best boba tea.

Ethan: That sounds perfect. I love boba tea.

Me: Yay! Not many people around here understand it. Haha. And the restaurant is pretty new to the area. You know Montana, always late to everything.

Ethan: Haha! We had them all over the place in Phoenix.

Me: I didn’t even know that’s where you moved from. We still have so much to learn about each other.

Ethan: Yes we do.

This just proves that we are going way, way, too fast.

Me: I hope you have a good Monday

Ethan: It started off pretty good, so I imagine it will stay that way ;)

Butterflies flutter through my stomach as I read what he sent. I’m kind of really realizing now what we did. In his office. In the vet building. Bent over his desk. The bell above the door chimes and brings me from my sexy memory. I spin and see Alexis, she works at the vet office. “Good morning, Alexis. Is there something I can help you find today?” I ask her, noticing she’s in scrubs.Shouldn’t she be at work?

“Oh, I don’t know,” she says, then runs her hands along the brightly colored leashes hanging in my rainbow display.

“Okay, well, if there is something, let me know.”

“Actually,” she says, as she turns to look at me, then cocks her head to the side, her lips pursed.

“Does it always take you so long to drop off cookies in the morning?” she asks.

My heart rate picks up and a feeling of cold air rushes over my body. I don’t move though. I keep eye contact with her as she crosses her arms in front of her chest.

“I’m not really sure what you mean, Alexis,” I say, calm as I can be, with a hint of sarcasm.

She storms towards me, her arms at her side now. She stops a couple feet from my face and points her finger at me. I notice her neck is getting red.

“You were in there with him,” she yells.

I take a deep breath and step back so she’s not in my comfort zone.

I pinch my brows together, to look as if I’m confused. “Well of course I was, silly. Dr. Walker is the one who unlocks the door in the morning.”
