The heat would have been far more oppressive if not for the breeze on her back where she'd been shot.

The backyard stretched about half a football field from the deck to the fence and about half of that from one side to the other. Trees, bushes, half a dozen sets of deck tables and chairs littered the lawn giving Isaac plenty of cover.

Katie scanned the deck first. The second her eyes fell on the bucket of water balloons she gasped as one smacked her shoulder soaking her left side.

Grabbing the bucket, Katie ducked behind a large clay pot. A water balloon whizzed over the plants smashing on the ground behind her. The spray dotted her leggings below her knees.

"Missed!" she hollered.

Judging by the trajectory, Katie took a quick look around the pot. She scanned the yard. Stopped when she found where she suspected Isaac was hiding. Behind a bush beside the porch swing and fire pit in the yard, just off the deck. Her suspicions were confirmed when the leaves rattled without the aid of a breeze.

Balloon in hand, Katie wound up and pitched it over the pot. A couple of seconds later the balloon splashed in the bush. Short of her target.

"Missed!" he mocked her.

Katie threw again adjusting her velocity accordingly.

"Fuck," Isaac grumbled.

"Ha!" Katie tucked the water gun into the waist of her leggings. After taking a balloon in each hand, she charged off the deck towards the bush.

Isaac popped up a second later letting loose one balloon then another. She dodged the first but he'd predicted her movement before he let the other one go. It exploded on her stomach. Stopping her in her tracks and leaving her front side completely drenched.

Katie fired back but failed to hit her moving target before he disappeared around the side of the house.

"Coward," she called after him. "Come back here and fight."

Katie drew her pistol prepared to fire when she came around to meet him.

"Make another move and I'll shoot," Isaac said behind her.

Damn. He ran around the house fast.

Katie looked back over her shoulder.

Her jaw dropped when she saw Isaac not holding her at gunpoint but hose point.

"You wouldn't dare," Katie said.

"Try me."

"You should be dead. I hit you with the balloon."

He pointed to his leg. "Not a critical hit."

"Son of a…" She blew out a frustrated breath. "Fine."

She looked down at herself. "I've taken several critical hits. Since you're still trying to kill me, does that mean I'm invincible?"

"Sure," Isaac said. "Why not?"

Katie ran.

The stream from the hose just missed her as she rounded the corner of the house. The hose would only reach so far and no way would he take it in the house.

Katie ran up the front porch.

Her head on a swivel, she waited for him to show up on either side of the porch or at the door.
