“Sorry. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until you called.” I shrugged as heat hit my cheeks.

Instead of answering, she let me take the food to the kitchen and went back to her car. Did she go grocery shopping? I would have been happy to help her.

Just when I was almost to the garage door, she came back in with three servers and a folder. “Give me just a sec to put these in my office, then I’ll be right back to eat.”

Going ahead and getting out plates and glasses for drinks, I filled them with ice water. Over the last few days, I’d learned she mostly liked to drink water, with the exception of morning coffee. That was definitely in the love category. I’d had to get creative on hiding my erection when she’d moan over the first sip.

When she came back through the kitchen she stopped at the island, where I’d also laid out all the dishes. It was a feast of all my favorites, with both steamed and vegetable fried rice, and an assortment of appetizers.

“It smells delicious. Thank you.” I smiled to show my appreciation.

“Of course.” One side of her lips quirked as she glanced at me under thick, dark lashes. That innocent look had my heart pounding out of my ribcage and suddenly, watching her fill up her plate was the most fascinating thing I’d done all day. Once she realized, she paused. “Are you going to grab some food?”

Jolted into action, I spooned a little bit of everything on my plate and followed her into the living room. “How was your day?”

She waited until she had the glass on the table between us and the plate balanced carefully over her lap before she glanced back at me. “It was okay. Nothing too crazy. What did you do while I was gone?”

A forkful of chicken midair, I shrugged again. “Clean. I wanted to keep busy and nothing on TV held my interest. It was lonely without you.”

It was probably my imagination, but it seemed a tiny bit of guilt flashed through her beautiful eyes. “Maybe next time I can take you with me. Although, I don’t have anything planned for the next couple days.”

I couldn’t decide what I loved more. Her knowing golden brown eyes, or her full lush lips. The way her lips closed around her fork played over and over in my head but in a very different scenario.

Clearing my throat, I looked down at my plate. It had been too long since I’d enjoyed being with a woman, and while I didn’t particularly think of myself as ruled by my baser needs, I could hardly contain my thoughts around Vienna.

“I’d love to—” I stopped mid-sentence as a phone rang upstairs.

“Excuse me, I need to run and grab that.” She set her plate down and jogged up the stairs. I tipped my head, straining to hear who would be calling her, but I could only make out a soft murmuring. This was the first time she’d received a call.

And then I realized I was being nosy. Except, then I did hear her. She must have been walking between the rooms upstairs.

“I never doubted for a minute that you’d call back, Fletcher.”

I glanced down at my food as her voice cut off again. Fletcher. Friend? Boyfriend? Definitely not husband. Not your business, I reminded myself as I took another bite.

"That depends..." Her voice drifted down and I couldn't help leaning forward. "No, that's not how I do business."

The chill in her voice had me wanting to intervene. However, it was none of my business, as already established. If she wanted me in on the call, she would have come downstairs with the phone, rather than gone up.

Focusing my attention on my food, I glanced over at hers. She'd barely had a few bites. If she took longer than another couple of minutes, I'd take her plate back in the kitchen so I could keep it warm for her. While she'd given me the tour and shown me the gym next door, I hadn't entered any room in the house that she hadn't invited me into.

I kept my cleaning efforts down here.

"Wrong answer," she said and the voice was just a few steps away from me. I nearly jumped. The phone was in her hand and she'd ended the call. She'd also changed while she was upstairs. Instead of the linen suit with its clean lines and crinkled material, she'd switched it out for an old cut up sweatshirt, that looked well-worn and loved, along with a pair of shorts.

The pink polish on her toes made me smile. It seemed such a frivolous thing and Vienna was not one given to frivolity. "Sorry about that." The light brush of her fingers to my shoulder sent tingles down my arm as she crossed behind the chairs to reclaim her seat.

"Is everything all right?"

If my curiosity bothered her at all, she didn't show it. Instead, she merely shrugged. "Business."

I nodded as if that made perfect sense. We hadn't really discussed her business. Before I could ask the first question that came to mind, the phone rang again. She didn't even look at the screen, just declined the call and put the phone back down.

"You said you were cleaning all day?" The question pulled my attention to her and she studied me with those golden eyes, making me smile. I loved those eyes, they beckoned to me to tell her every single secret I possessed.

Not that I had that many.

I was kind of boring when you thought about it.
