“So, what’s on the agenda for today?”

Nate shrugged. “Lucian has been asking about you. I’m sure he would love to see you.”

I nodded, giving him a small smile. “Maybe we can go over the lists for the club?”

“Are we still doing that?” My father arched an eyebrow.

“We sure are.” I took a huge bite of my pancake and chewed.

“I’ll call him.” Nate wiped his mouth again and left the room.

“Are you okay?” My father and I asked the same question at the same time.

We smiled and both nodded our heads. He knew I was lying, and I knew he was, too. But we didn’t dwell on it.

“What are you going to do about Lenny?” He took another small sip of his coffee.

I sighed. “I don’t know yet. Or… well… I know what I’m going to do to him once I find him, but I just don’t know how I’m going to go about it yet.” I tapped my forefinger on my knee and waited for his response. It didn't come.

When I looked up, he was staring at me, smiling. “Okay, Addie. Whatever you want to do. Let me know and we’ll get it done.” He smiled proudly as he gave my hand a gentle squeeze. “Are you okay? Really?”

“No, but I’m trying.”

Nate walked back into the room. “Lucian said that you can come by the house whenever you're ready.”

“Okay. Let me get my stuff.” I finished the last bit of my bacon and headed upstairs to get my purse.

In the car, it was just me and Nate. Immediately, my mind drifted to Big Bob and Joe. As we rode in silence, I wondered the best way to ask the question. Finally, I just came out with it. “Are they dead?”

Nate took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He bit his lip for a second. And that was when I knew.

“Yes and no. Big Bob was killed in the car. They shot Joe three times, but he lived. He’s in the hospital.” He smirked, arching an eyebrow. “I’m glad you got at least one of those fuckers.”

My heart sank. Big Bob was dead, and Joe was in the hospital because of me, because of my stupidity. Tears welled up in my eyes and I blinked them away. I would not cry for them, but I would avenge them.

“Will he make it?”

“They think so, but he’s looking at a long road of recovery ahead of him.”

I nodded. “Okay. I assume Big Bob's funeral is already over.”

Nate nodded. “Yeah. You slept through it. We tried to wake you up. But the doctor felt like it was best that you get your rest. He said it was your body's way of trying to heal.”

“Did we send flowers?”

He nodded. “Yeah. We did.”

The rest of the car ride was silent. I didn't have really anything else to say. No other questions to ask. Well, I had one, but I didn’t ask because I already knew the answer. It was my fault.

I had never been to Lucian’s house before. Didn’t even know where he lived.

We pulled into the driveway that circled before a huge house. Actually, to call it a house was doing it a disservice. The mansion was large and beautiful from the outside. In the circular driveway, there was a fountain with a nude woman standing in the middle made of marble. Water poured out of her outstretched hands into the little pond around her feet.

“Oh, this is gorgeous!”

“Yeah, it's nice,” Nate replied. “Call me when you’re ready to leave.”

I got out of the car and walked up to the door. It opened before I could knock. It wasn't until I was inside and the door closed that Nate pulled out of the driveway. He didn't say where he was going, and I didn't ask.
