“We were just talking about the club.” Lucian shrugged. “What are you up to?”

“Donnie and Luke are at Sky Italian Restaurant. They want to know when you’re coming through.” He shrugged. “Luke said he tried to call you.”

Lucian pulled his phone out of his back pocket. “Oh yeah. I turned it off.”

“Why would you turn your phone off?”

“I’m with Red.” He motioned toward me, looking at his son as if he should have already known. “I wanted to give her my undivided attention.”

“And I appreciate the talk.” I stood and offered him my hand.

“That’s what I’m here for. Anytime.” He stood and shook my hand, smiling. Then he looked down at his watch. “But now I have to go straighten some shit out. Charles, be a good boy and keep her company until her ride comes back. Will you?”

Lucian left the room and Charles took his seat. I took out my phone and texted Nate that I was ready.

“So, how are you… really?” Charles tilted his head to the side, his eyes filled with concern.

“People keep asking me that.” I let out a deep breath as I rose to my feet. Even though he meant well, he definitely wasn’t as charismatic as his father.

“Are we all getting the same answer?” He arched an eyebrow.

I tucked my phone back into my purse. “Mostly.”

“So… fine?”

I smiled. “I’m trying.”

He nodded in understanding. “So, how’s the club coming along, or have you not been by there yet?”

“We just have to redo some decorations and figure out our system.” I sighed. “But once we do that and have everything set up, we should be good to go.”

“Will I be invited to this club?” Charles leaned forward, batting his eyes.

I chucked. Maybe I was wrong about him. “You sound like your father.”

He scoffed as he leaned back, repulsed by my comment. “You really know how to ruin a man. Don’t you?”

I laughed. “Don’t worry. You’ll both be there.”

Charles leaned forward, resting his head in the palm of his right hand. “So, have any murderous thoughts lately?”

I shrugged. “People keep asking me that too.” I leaned back in my chair, taking him in.

“Your ways are… legendary around these parts.”

I laughed. “Apparently not, but they will be.”

He arched an eyebrow. “Ahh! Youareplotting something!”

“Your father gave me an idea, but I’m not sure how exactly I’m going to do it.”

“Well, you can always call MERCS. I’m sure they could handle anything you got planned.”

Mercs for Hire is a group of organized assassins. And yes, they were very good at what they did. One phone call and they would gladly handle anything I ordered. But for what I had planned, that wouldn’t be necessary.

I shrugged. “I don’t know. We’ll see.”

My phone dinged, and I dug it out of my purse. “Nate’s here.” I stood and offered him my hand. “I’ll see you later.”
