Cassie nodded.

“I can tell you that isnotthe case. I’ve seen the way he looks at you.”

“That’s what Aria said.”

Callie pulled away from Cassie and looked her in the eye. “How about you listen to your two best friends then, huh?”

Cassie shrugged her shoulders and gave her best friend a small smile. “Ok. Fine. I’ll go. But you guys have to help me.”

Callie beamed. “Deal. Now, after you text Aria, you have to try my soup.”

Cassie shot her friend a text.Need your help ASAP. Have any suggestions for a Halloween costume?

The possibilities are endless,Aria replied.Be home in 30.

Come to Callie’s. I stressed and ran here.

You? Stress? Never!

Jerk, Cassie texted, along with a tongue-sticking-out emoticon.

You’re calling the woman who is going to save your costume-less ass a jerk…

I love you, Ar.Cassie responded.You’re my fav.

Be prepared to be dazzled. I have just the costume in mind.

“She said she’d be here in thirty minutes with a costume in tow,” Cassie said, putting her phone down on the counter.

“Told ya,” Callie said. “Now, if you don’t try my soup I’ll never be your friend again.” She held the spoon out toward Cassie. “Take a damn bite.”

Cassie blew on the soup sitting in the spoon before putting it in her mouth. It was surprisingly amazing. “Callie, this reallydoestake like Panera’s! I’m impressed.”

Callie shrugged. “What can I say? I’ve become Susie Homemaker since I got married.”

“Just don’t start vacuuming in heels and pearls.”

“Deal.”

“What do you think she’s gonna look like, huh? Did she give you a clue?” JJ and Jamal were in their living room, waiting on Cassie to arrive. She texted him last night to tell him that Aria had found her a costume and was going to do her makeup, so she would be able to go to the carnival as his plus one. If you could even have a plus one in an elementary school carnival where they would probably meet one, if not all of the Avengers, Disney princesses and a bunch of ghosts, witches and zombies.

“Do you think she changed her mind? We’re gonna be late if she doesn’t get here soon!” JJ was dressed up as an OU softball player. Jamal had gotten Patty Gasso to send him the information of where the university ordered their suits. He had contacted the manufacturer and ordered JJ an exact replica. Seeing the joy on his daughter’s face when she unwrapped it was a great feeling.

“She’ll come, J,” he said. “She’s probably just running late. You know how women are when it comes to dressing up.”

“Actually,” his daughter replied, “I don’t. I live with an old lady who buys all her clothes at an old lady store and a dad who wears an NBA jersey most of the time. And you know Callie sure don’t act like a normal girl her age.”

Jamal laughed. “You have a point, kiddo. Maybe Cassie will introduce you to all that girly stuff.”

Just as Jamal got out his phone to check his messagesagain, his doorbell rang. JJ started to run and answer it but was intercepted by Irma, decked out in an I Love Lucy outfit, complete with a red wig and even redder lipstick.

“Let me answer the door, young lady. After all, it is my job. Unless your daddy fired me and I haven’t been told yet. Besides, I want to be the first one to see her.”

Irma opened the door and let out a gasp. “You lookwonderful, dear,” Jamal and JJ heard her say.

JJ pushed her way to the door and opened it wide so she and Jamal could see.
