“Huh?”

“You really are a dead head in the morning, Cass. Coffee. What kind of coffee do you want?”

“Oh, that. I want a venti peppermint mocha latte with extra peppermint. Oh, and one of their blueberry muffins. Please and thank you.”

“You got it, babe,” Jamal responded, before hanging up the phone.

“Babe?” Aria said, sliding into bed next to Cassie and pulling the comforter up to her chin. “Since when did your relationship reach thebabestatus?”

Cassie shrugged her shoulders, throwing the comforter down to her legs and sitting up against her pillows with a yawn. She stretched her back as far as it could go, hearing her spine pop in protest. “That’s the first time he’s called me that.”

“Throwing out babe, sending you flowers. Pretty soon, he’ll be down on one knee popping the question,” Aria said, a smirk on her face.

“Whatever, Ar,” Cassie replied, pushing herself to her feet and padding over to her closet. “We haven’t even been on an actual date yet.”

“Maybe that’s what should come next then.”

“What?”

“Jeez, Cas! Listen to Jamal. You are a total deadhead in the morning. A date, idiot. You, him. Romantic dinner by candlelight. Gettin’ freaky afterward.” Aria shrugged her shoulders and pulled a Charms sucker out from under Cassie’s pillow and opened the wrapper. “Sweet pineapple, sour grapefruit. My fav.”

“You’re hiding lollipops under my pillows now? Aria, you are ridiculous!”

“Calm down, killer. I left it there when I was eating pizza. And ice cream.”

“I’m glad you think we’re good enough friends that you can eat in my bed any time you want,” Cassie said, rolling her eyes.

“Ew O ew wuv me,” Aria said around the sucker in her mouth.

“Huh?”

Popping the sucker out from between her lips, Aria said, “I said, you know you love me.”

She made a waving motion with her hand. “Now, you need to go get dressed for lover boy.”

Cassie made a face at her friend but did what Aria suggested. “Need I remind you that I am going with Jamal and hisdaughter?!”

Aria grinned, popping her sucker back in her mouth and raising her eyebrows in response. “Better take a big bag then. And pack something sexy for when you send JJ on an overnight visit with the newlyweds.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I’ll tell you what I’m talking about. I’m talking about as soon as you walk out the door I’m going to send a text to our other best friend, telling her to text Jamal and ask if JJ can spend the night at their place tonight. That way, you can have somealonetime with Mr. Sexy Basketball Player. Lord knows, Callie and Kyle have caught upplentyon theirs!”

“You are ridiculous, my dear friend,” Cassie said, standing and stretching her arms over her head. “I’m going to go take a shower. Andnotpack anything sexy!”

As Cassie walked to the bathroom, she heard Aria texting away on her phone. A continual chirping meant Callie, whom Aria was probably texting, was blowing up Aria’s phone as much as Aria was hers. Even as Cassie rolled her eyes at the audacity of her friend, she couldn’t help but smile. No matter what happened in her life, Cassie knew two people would always have her back.

Twenty minutes later, Cassie was showered, dressed and ready to go. Braiding her hair in a side braid over one shoulder, Cassie added some of her favorite Cotton Candy lip gloss to her lips and gave her lashes a swipe with a mascara wand.

“It’s not even fair,” Aria said, leaning against the doorframe of the bathroom.

“What’s not fair?”

“It’s not fair that I have topayfor eyelashes like the ones God blessed you with. How are those things even real? Are you a camel?”

“What?! That doesn’t make sense, nerd,” Cassie responded.
