“You wanted to wear sweats to your wedding. Are yousureyou can handle a girl’s day?” JJ asked her with some sass.

“How about I let Cassie introduce me to some girly stuff, too? After all, she did convince me to wear a dress.”

“Okie dokie. It’s a girl’s day date!” JJ said happily. “Did ya hear that, daddy-o? I’ve got a date.”

“Just as long as that’s your only date for twenty more years, kid. Then that’s fine. So, Bambi? What’ll it be? Date or no date? I know my daughter is itching to beat Kyle at air hockey for the third time in a row.”

“Hey! She’s only beaten me twice!” Kyle exclaimed.

“Not helping your cred any,” Jamal said with a grin his friend’s way. He turned to Cassie. “I promise I won’t take you to Chuck E. Cheese.”

“Why not?” Cassie said, a shy smile on her face. “After all, itisSaturday night.” Jamal let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. His first official, adult date with the beauty standing in front of him. The night was young and the possibilities were endless.

Cassie couldn’t help the flutter in her heart. When Jamal smiled that smile at her, she couldn’t help but feel like a giddy schoolgirl with her first crush.

“So where you taking me, Muscles? You just said it wouldn’t be Chuck E. Cheese. So I assume we’re going somewhere grownup.”

Jamal grinned again and sent her a wink, sending her heart fluttering even more than it already was. If he kept that up she wouldn’t be able to from a coherent sentence the rest of the night, not to mention refraining from pulling his shirt over that delectable body of his.

Stupid Aria and Callie and all their talk of getting freaky, she thought. Although she had seen him shirtless and knew she would never be the same.Control yourself, Cassie.

Jamal raised his eyebrows at her. “What’s going on in that head of yours, Bambi? I could tell I lost you for a minute.”

Cassie felt herself blush. “Nothing. Just wondering where you are going to take me.”

“It just came to me,” he said. “I know the perfect place.”

“Where, daddy-o? Tell me!” JJ begged. Jamal leaned over and whispered in her ear. “Oh, that’sgood!”

“Now I wanna know!” Callie exclaimed, leaning her head down to share in the secret.

“Jamal shook his head. “Nuh uh. No can do. You have a big mouth. You’ll spill before we even get out the door. JJ can tell you after we leave.”

Jamal took Cassie’s hand and led her away from the trio standing in the kitchen and headed for the door. “Let’s go, Bambi. Like my daughter said, my idea isgood! You ready?”

Cassie nodded, loving the feel of her small hand in his large one. “Yep. Let’s go.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

“Alright, Bambi. You can open your eyes. We’re here.”

Jamal took the key in the ignition and opened his door, silencing his radio that had been playing softly in the background on the way to their destination.

Cassie opened her eyes and stared up at the building. “You brought me to a warehouse?” she asked with a wrinkle of her nose.

“Warehouse?! Lord, Cas, it’s not a-” Jamal trailed off at the dubious look on Cassie’s face. Jamal turned to the building. “Ok, ok. I can see where you would think it was a warehouse. But if I had taken you to thefrontof the building, you would for sure know what it is.”

“And that being?” she asked after his pause.

“Our practice arena.” Jamal laughed at the confused look on her face.

“But don’t you play at that one place?” she asked. “I forget its name.”

“You, my darling,” he said, taking her hand in his and leading her to the door, “Are one of the most uneducated sports fans in the entire state. It’s called the Chesapeake Arena.”
