Kyle leveled him with another glare. “It’smywedding, Jamal. In case you forgot, it’s my time for hooking up. You keep everything in your pants, please and thank you.”

“Hopefully not at your wedding, man. That would be kinda awkward, what with her dad being here and all.”

Before Kyle could come back with a smartass remark, they were interrupted by the chirp of Kyle’s phone.

“Finally!”Kyle said. “Let’s go. Aria and Cassie are here. We can finally get this show on the road.”

“Practice show, you mean. The real deal ain’t until this weekend, mister.”

Kyle rolled his eyes. “Why are we friends again?”

“Because no one else could put up with your snarky ass,” Jamal laughed and clapped his friend on the back. “Now pull that giant stick out from between your cheeks and let’s go get you practice married.”

“Finally!Where have you guysbeen? We’ve been waiting forhours!”

Aria rolled her eyes. “Twenty minutes, Cal. Twenty minutes. Shit, queen of over exaggeration.”

Cassie and Aria had just arrived at the dressing room for the girls in the wedding party. Their dresses were all hung in neat rows on a rolling clothes rack in the corner. Mirrors lined the room, giving bride and bridesmaids full circle views of themselves. Two ivory tufted couches were placed in the middle of the room. One was currently occupied by her friend and bride-to-be and two of Kyle’s sisters, the other two sisters occupying the other couch. Cassie couldn’t remember all of their names. She just knew they all started with a K.

“Notthe point,Aria. Thepointis,” Callie continued, rising off the couch and marching over to the two girls, “that it’s my wedding and you can’t be late!”

“Wedding practice,” Aria muttered under her breath. Cal pointed her finger in Aria’s face, but before she could get out a word, Cassie softly grabbed Callie’s arm and dropped it to her side.

“It’s ok. We’re here now. I’m sorry we’re late. Aria was wearing a tube top and leggings. I thought it would be better that she put onthatinstead of what she had on. That’s why we’re late.”

Callie took a deep breath. “Thanks, Cas. I’m just nervous. Sorry for snapping, Ar.”

“Sorry for being late to your practice wedding,” Aria said, giving Callie a hug. “I’m just sad because one of my best friends is leaving us.”

“I’m not leaving; I’m just getting married.”

“That’s what I told her,” Cassie said, wrapping her friends in a group hug. “No one is leaving anybody. We’e best friends until the day we die. Now, who am I walking with again?”

“Jamal,” Callie replied.

“And who’s Jamal again?”

“The point guard for the Thunder,” one of the K girls said. “Don’t you watch basketball?”

“I watch textbooks, mostly,” Cassie replied.

The rest of the K-clan gave each other a look. Coming from a family where two siblings were collegiate athletes, one who went on to play basketball professionally, Cassie didn’t think they could imagine a life without sports. Cassie, on the other hand, didn’t know the difference between a point guard and a four point GPA.

“Well, girl, let me tell you something,” Aria said, throwing her sucker stick in the trash next to the couches. “You’re in for a treat. Because that man isfine. He’s a dead ringer for Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy, who, in my humble opinion, iswayhotter than McDreamy.”

Cassie looked at her blankly.

“Seriously, Cass? We have to get your nose out of those books of yours more often. Live a little, girl! Enjoy walking down the aisle with that hunk of a man.”

Cassie took a deep breath. She might as well get this over with. She only had to walk down the aisle with the guy two times. How bad could it be?

CHAPTER FIVE

“How many times do we have to practice this?” Jamal was following Kyle, three of his brothers-in-law, and two of Kyle’s teammates from Duke down one of the wooden walkways in the Crystal Bridge of the Myriad Gardens. Jamal had lived in Oklahoma City for four years but had never been to the fifteen acre facility. It really was beautiful.
