“Wait, wait, wait,” Nereida said. “Turn around, Grandpa.”

“You’re right. I forgot.” Einar spun around and stopped long enough for the twins to blow kisses and for me to blow kisses back. He spun back to the door and, grinning, carried his granddaughters out to breakfast.

“I can’t remember the last time I’ve smiled so much.” I blinked back fresh tears. “I’ve never known my heart could be filled with so much love. It feels strange to feel this much happiness when I should be grieving, but I can’t help it.”

Seff caught me around my waist and pulled me to him. “It’s okay to be happy.” One dark eyebrow rose as he gazed into my eyes. “Do you know what tomorrow is?”

“Truthfully, the last couple of weeks have been a special kind of heaven and hell all rolled into one.”

He chuckled. “Ain’t that the truth.” He touched his forehead to mine. “Tomorrow is Christmas Day.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck and rubbed my nose against his. “We’ve never celebrated Christmas before.”

“I’m not sayin’ you gotta give up your Winter Solstice celebration because I’m happy to do both. But at Gunner’s, my mom always makes a huge Christmas feast that pretty much lasts from breakfast to supper. Gunner’s kids and grandkids all come to the party. It’s a blast. Gunner said once we got the twins back and my mom and dad returned from their vacation, he wanted us all to celebrate together. I told him I’d talk to you about it, and if you’re game, we’ll do that.”

“Can we get there before the full moon?”

Seff pulled out his phone and tapped the screen, bringing up a calendar with his thumb. “We could be there by tomorrow morning if we drive straight through. I’ll talk with the guys and work it out. I need to get my dad’s Jeep back, and we can take your truck, and—”

I stopped him with a kiss, and as usual, the kiss went from soft and sweet to hot and deep in a few seconds. His fresh earthy fragrance deepened and mixed with the scent of love blooming between us—orange blossoms and honey. His body went hard, his erection throbbing and twitching against my belly. He growled when I tried to pull away, which only made me giggle.

“Seff—”

“Holy hell, my heart aches just lookin’ at you. How am I ever gonna get enough? Every time you kiss me, I have to fight the urge to strip you naked and bury myself inside you.” His mouth moved along the length of my neck, tracing the lacy lines of my tattoo, making me tremble. He groaned. “You taste so fucking luscious. I wanna kiss you all the time.”

Gooseflesh broke out across my skin as he scraped his canines over my mating mark.

“Promise me, Seff.” My voice was deep and husky with desire. “Promise me you won’t make me wait. Promise me you’ll mate with me at the full moon.”

His dark brown gaze was so serious. “The fact that you even think I’m worthy of being your mate is an honor I...I can’t describe. So, yes, Desarae Draydon, I’m gonna mate with you at the full moon, and not one damn thing will keep me from fulfilling that promise.”

I grinned and twisted a thick strand of his long hair around my finger. “So, champ, are you up for making out a little?”

He let off a low hungry growl. Then, he tilted his head to the side, listening. “So, you know, I would love nothing better, but...” He nodded toward the front door. “Family life.” One of his dark eyebrows lifted as he gave me a sly wink.

I heard the pounding of little feet along the wooden walkway outside. Then came the excited squealing voices of our daughters.

“Dad! Mom! C’mon, breakfast is ready!”

Dad. Mom.

A huge smile spread across Seff’s face, and, gods, he was so handsome. He gazed down at me and blinked. Joy flooded through our bond like a rushing river.

“You really are okay with our readymade family.”

“You betcha.” His smile grew wider. “Our readymade family has managed to wipe out every plan I ever made, but I promise you, I wouldn't change a damn thing.”
