My mouth fell open. “How did you know?”

“I ain’t no dummy.” He kissed the tip of my nose, scooted away from me, and smacked my hip. This time much gentler. “Time to go.”

What?

“You got what you came for, and I have somewhere I need to be.”

I smiled awkwardly. “Right.” I should have been the one to get out of bed right away. I shouldn’t have had to wait for him to say something.

We both stood. Me to get dressed and Dominick to go out into the hall to who knew where?

Quickly, I pulled on my clothes as fast as I could, but when I looked up, I found him leaning against the doorframe as he watched me. His arms were crossed, and he wore a look of amusement. But that was all he had on because he was still naked. Even the condom was gone.

I straightened my clothes and waited for him to move, so I could leave, but he didn’t budge, so I went to squeeze past him, but he stopped me with a hand on my hip.

I met his eyes.

“Tell Gina thanks.”

I frowned. “You have her phone number. Tell her yourself.”

“I will. But I want to make sure you do the same.”

“Oh my God. You want me to tell Gina thanks fromme, not fromyou?” I rolled my eyes. “You think highly of yourself.”

“Nah. I just want to make sure Gina says yes the next time you ask her for a favor.”

“I have to go.” I stepped away and headed for his front door.

“Vivian.”

I waited until I opened it before turning around.

“Next time, you are going to say my name.”

“There’s not going to be a next time,” I said and scurried outside, slamming the door behind me. I rushed to my car and swiftly got in. But I did pull out my phone, and I sent a quick text before I took off for home.

Me:You were right. He made me come. Thank you for the favor.

By two o’clock thenext afternoon, I had done more work in one day than I had done earlier in the week. In the future, I wasn’t going to waste so much time before getting laid.

I was deep into doing research for a case when there was a knock on my door. I looked up to see Preston St. James standing there.

Immediately, I stood up and smoothed my skirt. “Can I help you, sir?”

I walked around my desk and attempted to peek around him to see why my assistant hadn’t warned me that Mr. St. James was at my door. I could see her outside Isaac’s office, which meant she was helping him. Someday, I was going to have my very own assistant.

“That was some good work you did this morning with the settlement. You got the company to agree to more than the client had originally asked for.”

This was unexpected. I knew I had wrapped up the case more quickly than anticipated, saving us from spending weeks in a courtroom, but in the scheme of things, it was a small case with minimal payout. But if a name partner—a firm partner whose name was literally in the official name of the law firm—was taking notice of my work, I wasn’t going to put down my accomplishments.

“Thank you. I came across some information in my research that helped them see things our client’s way.” Information that I had just found that morning, thanks to being able to focus after last night’s activities.

“Since your schedule has cleared up a bit, I have an assignment for you.”
