Delaney rolled her eyes in pleasure. “Mmm. Pretty much every pasta dish on this menu is good. You can’t go wrong.”

Rayne bit her lip. “I love pasta, but I’m trying to lower my carb intake.”

I wrinkled my nose. “Whatever for?”

Rayne’s eyes shot to mine.

“I apologize,” I said and rolled my eyes. “My sister says that I sometimes need to be more tactful.”

Rayne sighed. “Are we all friends now?” She looked at Delaney and me. “It feels like if we’re going to be spending a lot of time together, we’re going to be friends.”

I shrugged, but Delaney said, “Sure.” She smiled. “It’s the start of a beautiful friendship.”

Rayne grinned back. “I’m eating fewer carbs. If it were up to me, that’s all I would eat, but I am trying to have a more balanced diet. My father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and I don’t want to wait until it happens to me.”

Delaney leaned forward. “And…”

I looked back and forth. How had Delaney known there was anandto this?

Rayne blushed. “Oh, I don’t know if I should say anything else. It’s kind of personal.”

“Now, you have to tell us,” Delaney said.

I admit, my curiosity was very piqued. “What happens with Women in Law stays at Women in Law,” I said, borrowing the old Vegas slogan.

Delaney snapped her fingers and pointed at me. “What Vivian said.”

Rayne rolled her eyes. “Okay, but know that I am super embarrassed, so I’m trusting both of you not to make fun of me.”

Delaney held out her little finger. “Pinkie promise.”

Rayne held up her pinkie, too, but stopped and looked at me.

“Oh.” I mimicked them, and we all clasped our fingers together in a promise.

“I’ve put on a few pounds—a few pounds I didn’t need in the first place—and since then, my boyfriend doesn’t seem to be as interested in sex anymore.”

Rayne was what society considered plus-size, but society sucked. She was beautiful, and her boyfriend probably didn’t deserve her.

“If he doesn’t like you when you’ve gained weight, he’s not worth keeping,” I blurted out.

“Uh…thanks for the advice,” she said in a tone that said she was not thankful. “But he has never commented on my weight. It’s just the only thing that’s changed, and it sucks.”

“Have you tried talking to him?” Delaney asked.

That was probably a much better response than mine.

“Yes, and no. I’ve brought up the sex thing, but not my weight. He told me he’s been busy with work and he’s been tired lately.”

Delaney curled her lips. “This is why I’m so glad I’m divorced.” But a slow smile spread across her face in a way that I wasn’t sure if she was even aware it was happening. “Although our problem was never bedroom stuff.” She closed her eyes, and a small shiver went through her.

When she looked at Rayne and me again, she caught us both staring at her. I was sure Rayne was curious, but not as much as me. I shouldn’t want to know what Preston St. James was like in bed, but I did. Not because I wanted to be with him. No, it was simply because I was intrigued.

Delaney cleared her throat. “Sorry. Anyway, maybe you should try talking to your boyfriend again.”

Rayne shrugged. “Maybe.” She turned toward me. “What’s your story? Delaney’s divorced, I’m in a relationship, but what about you?”

“Oh, I’m single. I had a serious boyfriend for quite a few years, but we recently broke up when we decided our lives were headed in different directions.”
