“We found them in bed,” Oscar says before shoveling a fork full of eggs into his mouth.

“Fuck,” Lu whispers, a mouthful of coffee spilling out of her mouth and onto her breakfast.

I shake my head, laughing as I reach over to wrap an arm around Lu’s shoulders and pull her close. Ellen pisses herself laughing so hard she has to put her mug down on the bench before she drops it.

“It’s true,” Ollie says, nodding. “They were in bed and naked.”

“Oh, my fucking god,” Lu mumbles, burying her head against my chest. “We are definitely locking the front door.”

Later, after everyone has left and it’s just Lu and me, I pull her into my arms. “I’m just gonna run back to my place for something,” I whisper, mouth against her ear.

“Tim Tams?” she asks, pulling back a little.

I chuckle. “Yeah, okay, those too.”

Lu gives me a questioning look, but I lean down and press a kiss to the end of her nose. “I’ll be back in a sec.”

Over at my place, I grab one of the two things that I was attempting to sort out yesterday when I leftSomerville’safter Mel and Nate showed up. I’d hoped to have both things finalized, but I knew that was too much to hope for in such a short time frame, so for now, this would have to do.

Holding the box in one arm, I walk back over to Lu’s where I find her in the kitchen.

“Last two packets,” I say, sliding the Tim Tams across the bench to her, laughing as she pouts in genuine sadness. “Don’t worry, baby,” I add. “I’ll always get you Tim Tams.”

Her eyes light up as a smile breaks out on her face. “Yeah?” she asks, making me laugh. “What’s that?” she asks, suddenly noticing the box I’m carrying.

“This,” I say, pushing the box over to her, “is a present for you. Proof that from something bad, something really good can always come.”

Lu looks up at me, a confused look on her face as she tries to work out what I’m talking about.

“Open it,” I say, nodding my head at the box.

I watch as she does, her eyes widening as she takes in the twelve bottles of red wine. She reaches in, pulls one out, her jaw dropping when she sees what it is, the name I’ve given it.

“What…what is this?” she whispers.

I move toward her, pulling her into my arms. “This is your wine, Lu,” I say, kissing the top of her head. “From the grapes you thought we’d have to throw out when I first got here. From something bad, came something good.”

Her fingers brush over the front label, the four gold letters that spell out her name, the name I’ve given the wine, across the front. Turning it, I watch as she takes in the back label, the words I put together that describe so much more than just the wine.

Lulu – Cabernet Sauvignon

A lush and complex fruit-driven wine with absolutely no hint of residual tannins or bitterness. Aromas of cherry and dark-chocolate dominate and are perfectly undercut by subtle, yet lush earthy undertones.

On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied, evoking a powerful and all-consuming flavor that both surprises and deeply satisfies.

Strictly limited edition, this one-of-a-kind wine is superb to drink right now, but promises endless rewards if cellared and cared for properly.

A wine to enjoy today and for many years to come.

“Oh my god, Jack,” she whispers, her eyes shining with tears as she looks up at me. “You did this?”

I nod, my thumb brushing away a tear as it slides down her cheek. “I did, I love you, Lu,” I say.

A sob falls from her as she crushes her lips against mine. “Jack,” she murmurs between kisses. “You made wine for me, you did this, for me.”

I smile, pulling back a little so I can meet her eyes. “I did,” I tell her. “I’ll always make wine for you,” I say, lowering my mouth to hers.

One down, one to go.
