Out of the corner of my eye I catch Dylan’s stiff body relaxing slightly as if he’s grateful for the distraction.

“Yes,” Lauren says, smiling. “This is Tessa. She’s going to be working with Jack and me on the renovation and addition we’re putting on the cottage. We thought it would be nice to have her walk around the property and get some ideas of how she can seamlessly incorporate the cottage and property.”

I’m certain no one has heard a word Lauren has said because the space between all of us is swirling with far more tension than was here just moments ago when Tommy didn’t know whether I was staying or going.

“Right?” Lauren adds and Tessa quickly nods, her mouth set in a firm line and her hazel eyes widen a little when Lauren starts to introduce her around. “This is Tommy and Dylan, they run maintenance around here.”

Tommy reaches out and shakes her hand, but Dylan stupidly stands there, awkward and weird, and when I clear my throat, he finally says something.

“We already know each other,” he mutters, and I swallow back the laugh that feels like it’s forcing its way out of my throat. This couldn’t be more uncomfortable.

“Oh my god, seriously?” Lauren says, oblivious to all of this or maybe it’s just because Dylan confided in me about a certain girl, and I’m positive this is that girl.

“Well, it was nice to meet you Tessa, but Tommy and I have a few more things to take care of,” I interrupt, not wanting to wait here to see how this all plays out.

I grab hold of Tommy’s wrist and give him a little tug, pulling him in the direction of the exit.

“What the hell was that?” he asks once we’re out of earshot.

“That’s the girl Dylan was clearly sleeping with,” I tell him, dumbfounded by his complete lack of observation.

“You think?”

“Yes, Clueless, but I don’t care about them. I care about getting you home and celebrating. When we hit our front door, your clothes better be off,” I say, running my hand up under his t-shirt.

And before I can react, Tommy tosses me over his shoulder, slapping my ass, as he jogs toward our house.

Chapter Thirty-Eight

Tommy

“Hmmm, okay fighting sucks, but make up sex really is awesome,” Penny murmurs, rolling into my side, her face buried in my neck.

I chuckle, pulling her so she’s lying on top of me. “That wasn’t a fight, babe,” I tell her, my hands slipping down to her ass. “But it sure was great sex.”

She giggles, pinching my side as she asks, “It wasn’t?”

“No,” I murmur, leaning up to kiss her. “That was us having an adult moment.”

Penny bursts out laughing at my comment. “An adult moment?” she murmurs.

I brush the hair back from her face, my eyes meeting hers. “You sure you really don’t want to take the job?” I ask again. “Because I will go with you.”

Her laughter stops, a big smile on her face as she looks down at me. “I’m absolutely positive,” she says, her hand cupping my cheek. “This is our home and there is nowhere else I’d rather be.”

I swallow hard, both relieved and grateful. “And you’re serious about having babies with me one day?” I ask.

She chuckles, leaning down to suck on my ear lobe as she whispers, “I am, yeah, but maybe in a year or so? I kinda want you all to myself for a bit.”

I grin, squeezing her ass before I roll us over. “I can live with that,” I say, nudging her legs apart, my dick already hard and wanting more of her. “But it doesn’t mean we can’t get lots of practice in in the meantime.”

“Tommy,” she moans as I slide inside her. “The opening, we need to…”

“Shhh, we have time,” I murmur as I slowly thrust, burying myself inside her.

“Ohhh…” she breathes out. “I don’t think we do.”

She’s probably right, but right now, I don’t give a fuck, too consumed by this woman who has just given me everything I’ve ever wanted. “We’ll get there,” I say, hitching her leg higher as I slide deeper and silence any more words with a deep kiss.
