“Twenty-four.”

“Okay, and he’s been single for pretty much his whole life. He doesn’t have someone to check in with or to explain where he’s going or where he’s been. That can be a big change for some people. Again, not saying that your expectations are out of line, but it’s something you need to talk about so you’re both on the same page.”

“I agree and I wish I wasn’t such a sucker when it comes to difficult conversations. Clearly, I called off our friends with benefits by ghosting him. Real mature, huh?” I joke.

“In your defense, you thought you would never see him again. I would’ve immaturely ghosted him too. Sorry that this place is such a love-fest and he happened to work here too,” Lauren teases back.

“But seriously, what is it with this place? You putting something in the wine?”

“I don’t know, but whatever it is, it’s working,” Lauren elbows me and smiles. “Maybe it’s a sign that you ended up here?”

“I’m not sure I believe in that,” I tell her, but secretly, the thought has crossed my mind.

“I would say I don’t either, but it’s kinda how Jack and I ended up together too,” Lauren admits, shrugging. “Try talking to him again. Maybe he just needed time to process the whole thing.”

“We’re supposed to go on another date, that to be honest, I was planning to cancel. I’m just nervous that in the end it might not work out,” I tell Lauren.

“But sometimes relationships are worth the risk.”
