Reid snorted, “From what I hear, Mav already had that luxury this afternoon.”

“What!” I gasped, “Who did you hear that from?” I asked, completely ignoring the way Maverick stood with his chest pressed against my back or the way I leaned into his warmth even if I was as angry as a clam on him. Reid raised his eyebrows at me and took a pull off his beer not answering. “Red riding bitch.” I sneered and he laughed.

“Bingo.”

I turned and glared at Maverick, letting my disdain for his red headed bitch of an assistant ooze from my eyes. “I’ll take care of it.” He said, sliding his hands over my hips again as I leaned on my stool.

“Hmm.” I quipped and turned back around.

He leaned down into my ear and whispered, “It’s your own fault for being so loud.” He bit my ear lobe as he finished, and I tried but failed to suppress the moan it caused.

“I hate you.” I said to him, not caring that Reid and Nat watched like we were fucking right here on the table in front of them.

“I know. I hate you back.”

“Am I fired?” I asked, turning to look at him, but that was a mistake because that left his lips only inches from mine because he hadn’t stood back up.

“Are you still insisting on working downstairs?”

“Yes.”

“Then yes, you’re fired.”

“Shame.” I quipped, turning forward again, and took another shot. I slid from my stood and leaned into him as I licked my lips. “I kind of enjoyed fucking the big boss in his office today. Can’t do that if I’m unemployed.”

He growled at me and slid his hands around my waist as I tried to scoot by him. “Don’t tempt me Cora.” He leaned down and bit my ear again. “I know you’re not wearing any panties and that your pussy is soaked with my come. I’m on the verge of picking you up and fucking you right here on this table. Hair trigger close baby.”

“Hmm, promises, promises.” I replied and then pushed from his arms. “I have to pee.”

Nat jumped down from her stool, “Me too.” She slid her arm in mine again and pulled me away from the table and the brooding Mr. Jones, towards the ladies room and the long line that accompanied it.

When we got in the hallway I sagged into the wall and wiped my brow. “Holy hell!”

“I know!” She squealed and leaned against the wall next to me as we waited. “I knew from looking at you when you got off the elevator that you two were hot for each other but seeing it in person… holy hell indeed girlfriend. Was it always that hot between you two?”

“I don’t know, we were eighteen when we broke up, we’d been having sex for a few years at that point sure, but we were just kids. It was never as hot as it was today, that’s for sure.”

“I bet the whole distance makes the heart grow fonder thing had a hand to play in it.”

“Yeah distance.” I mused. “That and the fact that he started the domino effect that ruined my entire life.”

“What do you mean?” She asked, but I just shrugged her off, not meaning to open my mouth about my life back then.

“Nothing. I just can’t think straight with all the alcohol in my system.”

“Yeah, we did hit it pretty hard and fast thanks to Reid’s fat wallet.” She agreed and giggled as the line moved and it was our turn to go in.

When we weaved our way through the crowded bar towards our table, I stopped when I saw the groupie of women who were now hanging all over the two most eligible bachelors in all of New York City that we left at our table.

I stood ram rod straight as I watched a buxom brunette lean all over Maverick while he smiled down at her and I was instantly assaulted by images of him and Sarah from all those years ago. And every second of hurt I’d felt since then came back with them.

“Hey, you okay?” Nat asked, pulling me to the side of the bar against the wall.

“Yeah, I just…” I turned back to the table and watched as Mav tilted his head back and laughed at something she said before looking over her head towards the hallway to the bathroom. “I can’t do this with him again. He’ll destroy every little part of myself that I’ve gotten back over the last ten years. And what I have is already not enough to make me whole as it is.”

“Oh girl.” Nat said, pulling me into a hug. “I’m sorry he hurt you. I know exactly what that feels like and to know you were together for ten years before hand, that’s harder.”

“Thanks.” I said pulling back. This time when I looked over, Maverick’s eyes were locked on mine over top of the brunette’s head and I didn’t try to hide the pain I knew he could see in my gaze. “I’m going to just go home and sleep this off and see how I feel in the morning.”
