“Not according to your license.” He took another sip of his wine. “It’s silly for you to keep your place and you know it.”

“You’re brooding again.”

“Why don’t you want to give up your apartment? Is it because you need a safe haven? A back-up plan?”

“Do you think I have that little confidence in us?”

“I would hope not,” he replied.

“It’s not easy for me to tell my dad I want to move in with you. I’m his little girl. You saw how Jack reacted when he found out we were dating.”

“That was different. Jack thought I was corrupting you.”

“You are.”

“Your father doesn’t know that.” He smirked. “I’m certain you didn’t tell him what I do to you at night.”

She rolled her eyes.

“Are you afraid to tell him we’re living together? I can tell him.”

“No!” She raised her voice. “I’ll do it, but not yet.”

Her dad was a bit old-fashioned, and she was his only daughter. He was just getting used to the idea that she was dating a man ten years older than her. She didn’t want to throw him into cardiac arrest over her current living situation.

“He knows me.” Julian pleaded his case like the lawyer he was. “I could see him getting upset over a stranger, but not me.”

“He doesn’t know what’s between us,” she said. “I’m still his baby, whether I like the title or not. We’ve only been together a few months. He already didn’t want me living in the city alone. I’ve left the job he called in all those favors to get me, and now I’m leaving the apartment that was so hard to get. He’s going to think I’ve lost my mind. Just give me some time to ease him into our relationship.”

“I’ll respect your wishes,” he said. “I guess I wouldn’t want my daughter dating me.”

“Are you kidding? On paper you look impressive. A rich attorney with a penthouse in the city. You were the youngest to make partner in your firm. He should be ready to walk me down the aisle.” The words came out before she could stop them, but she knew better. Julian wasn’t into long-term relationships. “I mean, not really, but... Just, you’re a good catch. Any father would be proud to have you as a son-in... Not that we’re even there yet. Or that we’ll ever be there.”Oh my God! Stop it!“Just give me another month or so.”

Julian stared at her with an odd look in his expression, but before he could say anything, Marco brought out their dinner.

Thank God!

“That smells delicious.” Kayla inhaled when Marco set the pie between she and Julian. “I’m starving.”

He nodded for Marco to leave them alone.

“Enjoy your dinner,” he said before strolling back to the kitchen.

The look in Julian’s eyes had changed. Why had she brought up marriage? He wasn’t a relationship type of guy to begin with. She picked up her slice of pizza and bit into it so she couldn’t make an even bigger mess of things.

Chapter 5

“We’ll start light,” Martin said as he swiped the keycard that granted access to the playroom. “This is my private room here at the club. No one but me can enter, and there is no observation window. We have total privacy when we’re in here.”

Julian clasped Kayla’s hand and kissed her before stepping inside. His calming smile reassured her that he was with her every step of the way.

“There’s a place back there where you can undress.” Martin pointed to a privacy screen at the far end of the room.

She squeezed Julian’s hand.

“I want you to strip to your panties,” Martin told her. “Can you do that?”

“Yes.” Her voice was quiet.
