“Why doesn’t that surprise me?”

“The last time you were together, she set you up. Who knows what she has planned today? She could have a camera crew here.” Kayla motioned around the lobby. “I owe her a few words on those pictures she sent me.”

“I suppose you do.” He guided her across the room, realizing he didn’t want to face Angelina alone. She had tried to sabotage his relationship with Kayla. She had every right to be here when he confronted the witch.

“Angelina,” he said when they stopped in the lounge area where she sat waiting for him.

“Julian.” She stood. “You’re here.”

“This is where I live and you’re invading my privacy, so I hope you have a good reason for that. I don’t want a scene.”

“I’m not here to cause a problem. I wanted to talk to you before I left,” she said. “Kayla too.”

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“My grandfather is relocating me to Boston.”

“He’s running out of places to send you, isn’t he?” Julian shook his head. “Are you going to John Watson’s firm?”

“Yes, Grandfather thinks I can benefit from his expertise.”

“Doesn’t your grandfather know any women who you could work with?” Kayla asked. “It might work out better for you.”

Julian tried to conceal a grin, but Kayla’s idea did make sense. He found her bold demeanor quite sexy. He’d have to tell her later.

“I deserve that,” Angelina said. “I just wanted to apologize to you both for what I did. I never should have set Julian up, and I shouldn’t have sent you those photos. It was immature and out of line.”

“You think?” Kayla moved closer to Julian.

“Why did you do it?” Julian had been struggling with the answer to that question for a few weeks. “I realize you wanted to start up a relationship with me, but what you staged was over the top. When I told you with no uncertainty that I wasn’t interested, you tried to damage what I have with Kayla. We were friends, colleagues. We ended things on an amicable note. I can’t for the life of me figure out what you were thinking.”

“I wanted to be with you. I regretted leaving the last time. When I came back, I thought we could be together in the BDSM capacity. I never expected you to be in a committed relationship, much less have a girlfriend. I know a lot about you and—”

“Youknewa lot about me. What we shared is in the past. Anything I may have told you about me and my feelings on a serious relationship no longer applies. I’m with Kayla because she is who I was meant to be with. No amount of enticing or staging of scenes by anyone can change my mind. I’m happy with my recent choices. You need to respect that.”

“You’re right.” She looked down at her feet. “That’s why I’m here. You didn’t deserve what I did to you. At the time, I thought I was helping you see who you really were. I realized when you said no, you weren’t the man I fell for. It upset me. I sent those pictures to Kayla on an impulse.”

“Why did you even have someone filming us?” Again, he couldn’t figure out her motives. “What could you gain from that?”

“Leverage?” She shrugged. “I thought I could persuade you to scene with me.”

“You don’t sound very submissive,” Kayla said. “Julian made it clear he wasn’t interested. Your history with him should have been enough for you to back off. You should have known better.”

“All I can say is I’m sorry. I hope you both can accept that.” Her eyes filled with tears, but she quickly wiped them away, taking a deep breath. “Thank you for not sharing those photos with my grandfather. Or telling him what I did. He knows I screwed up. He doesn’t want to know what I did this time. He’s giving me one last chance in Boston. I can’t screw this up.”

“Going to your grandfather was not an easy decision for me. You placed me in a tough situation, but I will expose both of us if you ever try to come at me again. Those pictures better not ever resurface.”

“I’ve destroyed them,” she assured him. “You have my word there are no copies.”

“Your word doesn’t mean much to me, but I’ll take it for what it’s worth. Before you go to Boston, you should reach out to Martin Abrams, I know you know him.”

She nodded.

“He’ll put you in touch with someone in the lifestyle in Boston. If you’re serious about pursuing it, you need to find someone who can guide you. You’re setting yourself up for disaster with the path you’re heading down. Do yourself a favor and do some serious soul searching.”

“I will.” She wiped her eyes again. “Thank you for those words.” She looked at Kayla. “He’s an incredible man. I hope you realize what you have.”

“I realized it long before today,” Kayla said. “I hope you find what you’re looking for in Boston.”
