“It’s beautiful.” She untangled the thin gold band so she could examine the stones. The centre stone was a deep green opal with amber highlights and the oval shape was surrounded with brilliant diamonds. She suspected it was worth a fortune.
“I guess it’s not really something you could wear in the kitchen. If you don’t like it we can find something else.”
“I love it. You even remembered my birthstone. It’s absolutely perfect.” She held it out to him and he took the ring with a question in his eyes. After a moment, she thrust her left hand at him.
His slow smile lit up his face. He slid the ring onto her finger and kissed the knuckle. “I love you so much, Bonnie Callaghan.”
The explosion of feeling in her chest almost stopped her speaking. She swallowed. “I love you with all my heart, Alexander MacDonald.”
The smile was still on his lips as they met hers.
