“Oh, Brandon, thank goodness. I was just on my way to get security. A woman is yelling in Trixie’s shop. I’ve never seen her before,” she starts, but I barely let her finish before I’m running that way. Where the hell is Levi, and why isn’t he in the damn shop?

I make it to the shop and see Levi is in there standing by Trixie while some lady close to the door is yelling and someone else in the corner. I walk in and stop dead.

“Mom?” I question. She’s the one yelling at my woman? In her own store? “What the fuck are you doing here? And what the hell are you doing with Tina?”

She opens her mouth to reply, but before she can, Trixie speaks up.

“I want you all out now,” Trixie says. I look over at her. There are tears in her eyes, but her head is held high, and her words are strong and demanding.

“Baby..” I start, but she holds up her hand.

“Leave.” Is all she says. Just like that, my heart shatters into a million pieces. I want to fight, to know what the hell is going on. What did my mother say to make Trixie look at me with so much coldness.

With so much… hurt.

Chapter 7

Trixie

I’m humming and working away at a new order when I hear the doorbell above my shop door ring.

“I’ll be right with you,” I tell them as I place the final piece on Brandon’s custom ornament. It’s a surprise, one I can’t wait to give to him at the tree lighting ceremony. I finally finished it, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The one worry I have is that it won’t fit… mine.

I haven’t tried it yet, wanting to wait until we hang it on the tree, but I’m praying it’s a match. I haven’t really looked at my ornament in years. It’s been in a box in my closet since I was little. I barely remember making it, but I have this feeling… it has to fit this one. I set the tiny silver knight ornament in a small box before looking up at the two women who had just walked into my store.

“That’s her. That’s the one trying to take him away from us,” the woman who trashed my store says to a more elegant woman looking down her nose at me before turning to the rest of my store.

“What a…. Cute little place you have here,” she says, but her face is full of disgust.

“Can I help you with anything?” I ask, keeping an eye on the psycho beside her.

“Yes, my name is Laura Wells, and you are the woman trying to get your claws into my son,” she says with a raised brow.

“And my name is Tina. I’m Brandon’s girlfriend,” Tina tells me, crossing her arms and giving me a smug look. I look back to Laura, who rolls her eyes.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what you mean. Brandon and I are dating, but I’m not trying to sink my claws into him,” I say, defending myself.

“Tina here tells me you’ve been spending a lot of time together. I’m here to let you know it will never work. When he leaves this town, he will never look back,” she says smugly.

“No offense ma’am, but whatever happens with Brandon and me is none of your concern,” I tell her.

“None of my concern? That’s my son. He’s only here to shoot a movie. One that should actually be done any day now. He plans to return to California. Did he tell you that?” she sneers at me.

“We hadn’t really talked about it,” I admit. I haven’t wanted to bring it up. The thought of him leaving tears my heart into shreds. I had hoped we had a bit more time to figure everything out.

“Well, you should know I talked to him this morning. He still plans to leave and made no mention of you. I’m his manager and his mother. You would think if he had any feelings for you, he would have mentioned something,” Laura says, and that’s like a stab to the gut. She’s right. Brandon should have at least mentioned me in passing.

“I’m the one he loves. He belongs to..” Tina starts, but Laura holds up her hand.

“No one cares, Tina.” Is all she says before turning those cold eyes back on me.

“He’s done this in every town he’s gone to. He gets bored with filming, so he finds a local to have some fun with,” she starts, but I don’t want to hear this. There’s no way Brandon could do this to me. There’s no way Brandon could do this.

“I don’t believe you,” I tell her, lifting my chin.

“The roof, the dinner, having sex under the stars. It’s all something he’s pulled before. You are not special,” she says, and that makes me gasp. How could she possibly know about that?

“Get out,” I tell them both, but they just stare at me smugly. I don’t want them in my store anymore. I don’t want to hear any of this.
