Epilogue Two

Bailey

Five years later:

The last five years have been utterly magical. It was a tense time in the beginning. That day in the hospital, I woke with Alec and my parents devastated while all I could do was lay there in that stupid hospital bed. Alec felt so guilty for the longest time. I worried he would actually leave me. He blamed it on my safety, but I think seeing me in that bed and seeing me after the accident scared the hell out of him. He tried to hide it, but I knew he had nightmares for months after. After Billy’s trial, things got better. Billy was charged with attempted murder and tried as an adult. He’ll be in jail for a long while, but we’ve moved on with our lives. He got what he deserved, and now it’s time for me and Alec to get the same.

I smile, knowing I’ve got that tenfold, cupping my swollen belly and smiling as I feel our little girl kick. I’m one week away from my due date, and I can’t wait to meet our baby. Alec and his friends followed their dreams and opened that shop they wanted, while the other ladies and I have become as close as sisters. Actually, speaking of…..

“Woman, where are you at? I have to pee. This baby is bouncing on my bladder.” Before I can meet them in the living room of mine and Alec’s home, I feel a gush of wetness run down my legs.

“Oh no!” I shout, just as Alec walks through the door.

“Baby, where are you? What’s wrong? Is it the baby?” he yells, running through the house, trying to find me. I’m trying to breathe through the pain and answer him, but it’s not working.

“Baby, talk to me. What happened? Why is the floor wet….” Alecs starts as he slides into the room.

“NOW?” he shouts when it finally clicks. I nod my head, and he jumps into gear.

“You, use my phone to call mom and dad. You, grab the go-bag from the hall closet. You, call the guys at the shop let them know what’s going on. You, you’re driving. Let’s go, people, move, move, move!” Alec barks, and I want to laugh as all the women jump and run, following his orders. Any other time, we would all be looking at him like he was crazy trying to boss us around, but not this time. We make it to the hospital, and mom and dad are already there waiting on us.

“I can’t believe we get to meet our grandbaby today! I’m so happy. As soon as you can, let us know they are both all right,” Mom tells us, holding tightly to dad’s hand. I look at Alec and nod, wanting him to give them the news.

“Actually,” he starts. “Bailey and I want you both in the room while she delivers,” he tells them, and they both look at us in shock. It might seem weird wanting my dad in the room with me, but he’s been just as involved and loving in my life and my decisions as my mom. He and Alec have become so close, too. Alec has been the son my dad always wanted. Alec finally started trusting my dad and calling him for any kind of approval. I love the relationship they have built. I couldn’t imagine how my life would turn out, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Alec will need my dad there for him, just like I’ll need my mom and Alec there for me. Plus, I need my daddy as well. I will always be his princess, but I have a feeling my spot is about to be shared in his heart.

“If that’s what you really want, we would be honored,” my dad says, and they rush me back into a delivery room. Alec on one side, my father on the other, while my mom stays by my head.

Four hours later, the nurses are placing our baby in Alec’s arms.

“She’s so beautiful,” Alec says, tears in his eyes. “How can I love her so much when I just met her?”

“You did wonderful, princess. I’m so proud of you, of both of you,” my dad tells me, kissing me on the forehead. There are tears in his and my mom’s eyes, but the happiness just radiates from both of them. My parents, the love of my life, and my whole reason for breathing all in one room. Happy, healthy, and loved. My life is one made for the books. It couldn’t be more perfect.
