“She tried to leave me. No one leaves me,” he says, bending and picking up the gun I hadn’t noticed before.

“That’s all she was to you? A possession. Did you ever love her?” I ask.

“She was the most gorgeous woman I had ever seen in my life. She was young, innocent, and ripe. Everything I needed for a toy. Someone I could use and abuse. Then she got pregnant and ruined herself all for you. Then she tried to take you and leave me. That wasn’t going to work for me,” he says, pointing the gun at me.

“Why didn’t you kill me too?” I ask him.

“That fucker two trailers down,” he spits the word.

Landon, my protector.

“He made sure eyes were always on me. Even as a snot-nosed brat, he made sure he talked about you and your life. He made sure teachers knew you were alive and made sure you got to school just fine. Always in the fucking way; Always making sure people were watching our every move. Now though, now I’ve made sure people all around this town know you ran away. That you’ve been seen all over town with that boy. Now I can finally make you disappear and guess where every head is going to turn?” he says, smiling evilly at me. I can hear the screams of the other girls still on the phone. I was shocked though not surprised since he’s always hated me, and now I know why. With an evil smile crossing his face, he raises the gun and aims it right at me. There’s nothing else I can do. He killed my mother, and now he’s going to kill me.

What’s worse is he’s going to point the blame right at Landon, and there’s nothing I can do will protect him. He will never know what really happened to me. I close my eyes, not willing to look at the man I once called my dad, as he cocks the gun. I take a deep breath, then feel the fire ripping through me as the gun goes off.
