As we were on the way there I got a text. Reluctantly I got out my phone and checked it. It was from Kris Applegate.

“Who is it?” Maggie asked.

“Chris Applegate. I got th’ part.”

‘In the movie?”

“Aye, we start shootin’ in two mont’s.”

“The benefits of therapy, hey?”

“Not the only one,” I said, taking her and and kissing her on the cheek

“Well, look who’s here,” Noel said.

“He finally make an honest woman o’ ye?” Liam asked, Maggie.

Maggie lifted her left hand, showing off granny’s ring. Out of nowhere they took me in a group hug. I’m pretty sure they were about to give me bumps when a staff member came in and they dispersed.

“Ye can go in now,” she said.

Leaving my brothers behind, Maggie and I went into dad’s room, where he sat in a bit chair reading one of his damned Trocchi novels.

“Well, look who it is.”

“Hey, da.”

“Hello, and who is this pretty lady?” dad asked, catching sight of Maggie.

“Dad, this is Maggie Sanders. We just got engaged.”

“Nice one, me b’y,’ he said, giving me an approving wink.

I was really glad to be back in Dublin and to have patched things up with my dad and to see my brothers again. I wondered if Patrick might fly in for the wedding. No matter what, I was happy to be going back to the States with my very real fiancée.

THE END
