“You’re my home!” I yelled. “We’re each other’s home like we’ve always been.”

Had he planned on doing this in a week from now, or was he really saying this because he thought going back would help? Going back would do nothing other than force him to take whatever punishment Colin planned to dish out for me.

I wasn’t going to stand by and allow him to sacrifice himself for me.

I was getting tired of Dad’s devotion to wolves who didn’t care for him when I was trying to give us a better life. Kaleem offered us something we’d talked about for so long—freedom.

When Kaleem’s phone rang, he turned it to face us. It was Colin calling.

“Hello,” Kaleem answered.

“I’m aware of what happened tonight, and I know Diana and Mathieu are at your pack,” Colin replied, and Dad and I looked at each other. “They can remain there.”

Those four words were a complete shock to Dad and me. Was this really Colin speaking? There was no anger in his voice, and he said Dad and I could stay as if it was nothing? He was letting us go just like that?

No, something was wrong here.

“Is that so?” Kaleem asked. “Are you saying they are to remain here permanently?”

“That is entirely up to you,” Colin replied. “But Diana’s actions tonight and Mathieu’s that followed showed they’ve made their choice. As much as this pack isn’t perfect, we stand with each other. We’ve only just returned to our home, and I’d rather avoid any conflicts, so trying to keep you and Diana apart would be a waste of time.”

We stand with each otherwas what Colin had said, and I was still replaying those words in my head. Was he kidding? Was this my uncle or someone else pretending to be him? Did he forget the years Dad and I spent as outcasts? Who had our backs then?

Most importantly, I took a slap to the face because of his insistence that Kaleem and I shouldn’t be together, and now he was over it all? He was just letting it go?

“The goddess put you both together, and unless you decide otherwise, no one can change that. But as of tonight, Diana, Mathieu, you’re no longer a part of the Bluemoon Pack or welcome on pack ground. Your house will be cleared, and your items returned to you. Goodnight.”

The line went dead, and Dad walked away to head into the woods without saying anything.
