I couldn’t see those stories in the man before me now. I could see his savagery as a vampire but not to such an extent.

“Isaac, don’t go. We can help you,” Marian pleaded.

He smiled. It was faint and sad, but he smiled, and one second he was there, and the next, he was gone. Even his scent was already gone.

Marian's shoulders dropped, and she clutched her arm to her chest.

"Find him," Killian ordered, and I stepped up.

"No," I said, and Marian covered her face with her hands. "Let him go."

Killian didn’t look like he agreed but stood down.

I took Marian’s arm to examine her wound, and she looked at me with defeat, the dead stare of a person who'd seen things they shouldn't. My heart went out to her, and she hugged me.

I held her tighter than I ever had.

Isaac hadn’t bitten her to turn her, just to feed as she'd said, and she started crying again. She didn't make a sound this time. The tears just kept rolling down her cheeks.

"I think there are bodies inside the house," she stuttered after a few minutes, and Killian nodded to his wolves to check it out.

"We'll handle it, Marian," Killian reached out to lay a hand on her back but seemed to think otherwise. "Just get some rest, okay? It's all over now."

He nodded and gave me the bottled potion that would be smashed to open a portal home.

"I'll take you to the hospital, and then we can go home, okay?" I said while leaning back, and Marian shook her head.

She started rubbing at the blood stains on her body. “No,” she shook her head. “No. I want to go home. Take me home.”

I wanted to ask if she meant her home or mine. I felt so useless seeing her like this, knowing the pain she was feeling but unable to take it away. I'd spent years doing this, facing the aftermath of situations like this, but this time it was different.

I hadn't saved her. Isaac had.

“Okay,” I said softly. “Let’s go home.”

I'd take her to my place because that was our home now. I wasn't going to let her out of my sight again, ever! I could hear the police coming, and Killian gestured for me to leave. He'd handle this, and I was eternally in debt to him for his help.

This entire thing blew up, so the organization and the werewolf Council were going to hear about this due to Ian and Isaac being royals and the Macabre Twins, but everything was over now.

"He's gone?" Marian cried softly, but she was looking at me for an answer. "He's really gone this time, isn't he?"

“I don’t know,” I answered and smashed the portal potion.

I helped her through the portal, and I knew, for a while, I was going to have to help her heal, mentally and emotionally but I was prepared. In truth, I knew Isaac was going to be back. I saw how he looked at her, and love like that was the most powerful magnet in the world.
