“Oh my fucking god, Leah! He just winked at you!”

Leah, her heart squeezing hard in her chest, took a long swallow of wine. “He did, didn’t he?”

“He sure did. I can’t believe it. Who is this guy?” Georgie looked around. “Ah, here we go.” She slid off the stool and picked up a flyer from the floor. “Let’s see. Odyssey. Great name for a band. Callum Sinclair.” Passing it over to Leah, she sat back down. “There you are, Mrs. Sinclair.”

“Ha ha.” Leah looked at the flyer. The picture on it didn’t do him justice. He really was gorgeous. She looked up at him again, to find him looking at her as he sang the final notes of the song.

Then he said, “Time for a break, guys. We’ll be back in a bit.” The rest of the band seemed pretty surprised.

“Oh, sweet Jesus,” Georgie breathed as they watched Callum step down from the stage. “He’s coming over here. He can’t take his eyes off you.”

Leah was mesmerized as she watched him walking towards them. Then he was there, in front of her, smiling, his eyes a fascinating shade of dark brown, tinged with flecks of green, in the dim light.

“Hi.”

“Hi, yourself.” Georgie jumped in when it was clear Leah was too tongue tied to respond. She thrust out her hand. “I’m Georgie.”

He glanced at Georgie, taking her hand in his for a brief shake before turning his attention back to Leah. “Callum. And you are?”

Leah had a split second of panic. Her parents didn’t know she was out. She’d lied to them. In a moment of pure irrationality, she took his outstretched hand and said, “Ann—” about to say Anne, she thought that sounded too dull, so she said “—nie.”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Annnie. Can I get you a drink?”

“Oh, uh, I’m not—”

“Sure! She’d love a drink, wouldn’t you,Annie?”

Leah cleared her throat. “Ah, yes, thank you. That would be lovely.”

“Great! What are you drinking?”

“Moscato.” Georgie had to answer, since Leah was still too tongue tied.

“I’ll be right back.”

“What the fuck is wrong with you? Annie?” Georgie didn’t even try to hide the amusement in her voice.

“It’s my middle name. I just thought, oh god, my parents don’t know I’m out. I can’t give him my real name.”

“Okay, weirdo. He’s hardly likely to call your parents and dob on you, is he?”

“No, of course not. It was just reflex.”

“Well, Annie, you are one lucky chick. Every single girl in this room wishes they were you right now. Ooh, he’s coming back. Play it cool.”

“How do I do that?”

“No fake names would be a great start.”

“Helpful.”

Play it cool. She could do that. Who was she kidding? There was no way she could do that. He was the most gorgeous man she’d ever seen in real life. And he was looking at her like he wanted to drag her off to a dark corner and kiss her senseless. The very idea of it had her insides churning.

“Here you go.” With a bottle of cola tucked under his arm, Callum put their two wine glasses on the table.

“Thank you.” Leah reached for her glass just as he pulled his hand away, their fingers brushing ever so slightly as she did so. It was enough to send a tingle up her arm and rob the breath from her lungs. She gave him a fleeting glance and looked away. His eyes were hot on her face. It was a little overwhelming.

“So, Callum, do you play here much?”
