“Okay. There was an old farmer, who sat on a rock, waving and shaking his big hairy…” he waited a few beats, grinning as Mikayla’s eyes widened, “…fist, at the ladies next door at the ritz, who taught all the children to play with their…height strings and marbles and all things. Along comes a lady who walks like a duck, she thinks she’s invented a new way to…bring up the children to sew…”And on it went. By the time he got to the end, everyone was laughing.

“Oh, that’s the best. Each time I thought you were going to say fuck and you never did.” Ryan grinned at Mikayla. “Okay, I’ve got one you’re gonna love!”

“Go on then.”

“We learnt it in primary school. The Rattling Bog.”

“Oh aye, that’s a good one.”

“It’s my hen’s night, so you all have to sing it.”

It was a cumulative song, starting off with the tree in the bog, getting longer and faster with each verse, until the final verse. Breathless, Mikayla said, “Jesus, I’m not sure I can do it.”

“Sure you can,” Ryan said, giving her some encouragement.

Callum played through the last line with a flourish and Mikayla flopped back against her chair, holding her hands over her stomach, trying to catch her breath.

“That was amazing,” Georgie said, laughing at Ryan. He grinned at her, then his grin faded as he looked at her. She was unbelievably beautiful, her eyes glowing, her lips lush and kissable. He wanted to do just that. Pull her into his arms and kiss her. Kiss her for eternity. God, he loved her.

“What is it?”

Ryan cleared his throat. “Nothing.”

“Oh, because you were looking at me funny.”

“Was I? I was just thinking about how much I want to kiss you.”

“Oh, lovely.” Georgie leaned into him, brushing her lips lightly across his.

“Okay, sorry everyone, but I think we’re done.”

Georgie pulled back and they both looked at Rafe, then Mikayla said, “No, don’t stop because of me!”

“Darling, you’re knackered. We’re going home.” He pushed to his feet, pulling Mikayla up with him, ignoring her objections that he shouldn’t have to finish up just because she was tired. Their departure ended the night. Ryan wasn’t at all sorry. He was keen to have Georgie all to himself. They left the pub and he drove up to Sinclair’s Lookout.

“Oh, this is gorgeous. I haven’t been up here yet.” Georgie got out of the car when Ryan pulled to a stop, walking around a low park bench to stand at the fence that overlooked the ocean. A three-quarter moon rode high in the sky, its light falling softly on the inky black sea. A dusting of stars shone in the clear night. Ryan came up behind Georgie and slipped his arms around her waist. She covered his hands with her own and leaned back against him. Her scent teased at him, delicate and feminine and quintessentially Georgie. She turned in his arms, giving him a mysterious smile. He bent to kiss her and she opened her lips instantly. He slid his hands down her back to her bottom, dragging her against him and kissing her deeply. He broke the kiss to step back, sitting on the bench and pulling Georgie with him, so she was in his lap. Pushing his fingers into her hair, he tilted her head, giving her a light, teasing kiss. Then another. She sighed against his lips. “Are you teasing me?”

“Maybe a little.”

“Hmm.” She didn’t seem too keen on that since she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed scorching hot kisses down his neck. He pushed his hand under her sweater, running his fingers along the skin at the waistband of her jeans, grinning when she squirmed. He continued with the light, teasing touch until she said, “I’ve had enough of this.” She twisted in his arms so that she was straddling him. He gave in, claiming her lips in a hot, wet kiss, grabbing her hips and pulling her forward. There was no hiding how much he wanted her. Her arms tightened around his neck as she kissed him hungrily. He slid his hand over her stomach and up to her chest, holding it over her thundering heart. She wanted him as much as he wanted her. He could feel it. He could push her over here, seduce her right now if he wasn’t careful. But he knew it had to be on Georgie’s terms and Georgie’s timeline. Otherwise, she wouldn’t feel right about it. And neither would he.

Ryan broke the kiss. “Stop, mo chroi.” He heard Georgie blow out a breath and he wrapped his arms around her. She dropped her forehead to his, forcing herself to draw in deep, calming breaths.

“Sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“It’s fine. You didn’t do anything I didn’t want you to do.”

She slid her hand down his chest. “I could…”

Grabbing her hand before it could drift any lower, Ryan said, “No. I won’t settle for that.”

“But you—”

“No, Georgie. When I have you, I’ll have you. Nothing less.”

“Okay then. If you’re sure.”

“I’m sure.” He pulled her close again and she put her head on his shoulder. He smiled up at the stars when he heard her sigh. It was only a matter of time before she came to him. He knew it.
