CAMERON

“Okay,” Cam addressed his crew the Monday after his not-date with Emilia. They were standing in the lobby, waiting for the elevator, and he was struggling to keep his mind on the job, knowing he was going to see her in a matter of minutes. “We’ve got five minutes per desk to get them out of the way, and then another ten per desk to get the new ones set up. IT will be around to move in as soon as we’re done, so things’ll get a little crowded.” The lift opened and they stepped inside. “Any questions?”

“Yeah,” Pete said. “How much of the schlepping are you going to do?” Snarky chuckles filled the lift.

“None, if you don’t shut up.”

Guffaws filled the sales department as the lift opened, causing a few looks as the crew spilled out. Mia and Emilia were waiting for them, and they each gave him and Pete a polite handshake. Cameron’s gaze held Emilia’s as he held her hand in his, brushing his thumb over hers ever-so-slightly. Her mouth curved in a small smile as Mia began to speak.

“The front five desks are ready to go, so if you could do those, that would be great. Those peeps have meetings in an hour so they’ll need everything set up by then.”

A hustle of activity as Cameron moved with Mia towards her office, Emilia trailing behind.

“Would you like something to drink?” She asked jogging a bit to catch up with them.

“I’ll get something later, thanks. I’ll just get these guys started and the operation running properly and then I’d be happy to meet you in the kitchen.” The last was said out of the corner of his mouth, meant for her ears only.

Emilia didn’t reply, just smiled and moved away toward her desk. Cameron spent about fifteen minutes chatting with Mia and giving her the invoice for the job they were doing that day.

He went into the open office area and surveyed his crew at work, happy how efficient and careful they were.

He saw movement out of the corner of his eye and knew it was Emilia before turning to look. She was headed towards the kitchen. Excellent.

“Emilia, hi,” he said as he walked into the kitchen, closing the door behind him. “How’s your day going?” He just wanted to talk to her. Be near her.

“Fine, thank you,” his breath caught in his throat as she turned to smile at him. “How’s your day going?”

“Fine.”

“Good.”

“Good.”

“Anything else I can do for you?” Her question was coated in sugar and he grinned at her.

“Yes, there is actually. You can tell me how the rest of your weekend was, and if you thought about me as much as I thought about you.”

“Probably not as much, but some. I don’t know how much you thought about me.”

“Oh every now and then. Probably over the course of the day only about five thousand times.” Cameron tried his best to keep a straight face.

“That’s definitely more than I thought about you.”

“Really? How many times did you think about me?” She was delightful.

“Four thousand, eight hundred and twenty-seven. Give or take.”

Neither of them had realized that they’d been taking steps closer and closer towards each other the whole time they had been talking. Now they were standing just a few inches apart. Emilia seemed to realize it at the same time he did, because she looked down and then up at him through her lashes.

The tension between them was almost unbearable. Cameron put his finger underneath her chin and lifted her head, bringing his own down and hesitating just inches from her lips. She didn’t protest or try and stop him. Instead, it was Emilia who closed the gap between them, pressing her lips to his. It was the slightest brush of her mouth and sent his whole system into overdrive.

Moving his hands into her hair, Cameron crushed his mouth down on hers. She whimpered, opening her lips, letting their tongues dance. The feel of her melting against them, her arms winding around his neck, had him turning them so she was leaning against the counter, and he could push against her, closing her in.
