And completely tried to ignore the fact that Cam Ross was in her kitchen making himself right at home.

Cam

Cam wasn't goingto lie.

He got a huge kick out of these town meetings. There was something about the drama of it all that just made him grin like a maniac.

Of course, he usually didn’t have a dog in the fight, so he could sit back and watch the local factions throw down over everything from how to hide recycling for aesthetics to if having fresh Christmas trees year-round was acceptable.

He wasn't really sure what this meeting would entail since the plan of action—him dealing with the external, Vivian dealing with the internal—was already decided. Of course, that was an on-the-spot declaration by Ms. Angie.

But the decision made sense to him. He and Vivian were the best people in town for the job. And not to brag, but he was one of the best. Period. He was already making sure he lowered his fee behind closed doors so they didn’t have to challenge Vivian’s pay.

And even if they did want to fly in experts, he was the expert they’d most likely have flown in. There were few people who had studied Raymond Havester as in depth as he had, had the woodworking experience and awards, and would actually be able to handle both the historical and hands-on aspect of the job.

And if they did try to underpay Vivian? Well, he’d have strong language in reserve.

While Tyler had finished eating, sign-making, and cleaning up, he and Vivian created a plan of attack.

Okay, more of a plan of “sit back and let them hack it to shreds, then step in and tell them as directly as possible what they needed to make this happen.”

Watching Vivian attempt to sit back and keep her mouth shut was going to be amusing.

When Vivian finally came downstairs in a jean skirt and a fitted t-shirt, he gave her a grin. This was a different type of armor than she usually wore and he was fascinated by the change.

And proud of her. She wasn’t trying to sell them her abilities now—she had to know she’d proven her talent with cars over and over again. Now she was dressed for town business.

Man, he loved this woman.

It took everything in him not to reach over and take her hand as they climbed the hill to town hall, waving to the parade of people heading up around them and listening to the small talk.

They were one of the last groups into the hall, even if almost no one had taken their seats yet. And by a stroke of luck or planning, there were a couple seats in a middle row they were waved to.

Cam motioned for Tyler to go first and let his hand fall to Vivian’s waist as they wound their way through the crowd of gossiping people who couldn’t seem to figure out if this was exciting or a tragedy.

Vivian kept shifting under his touch. Tough luck, toots. She was going to have to let him woo her, including all the old-school gentleman moves he could pull out of his hat.

Maybe his dad would have some good old-timey suggestions.

Flowers seemed trite for a woman as vivid as Vivian.

Maybe new wrenches?

She probably had too many of those already.

When they got to the empty seats, Vivian shrugged his hand off and stepped into the row first, seating Tyler between them.

Cam flashed her a smile. That was fine. He loved Tyler, too.

Cam froze, realizing the thought that had just slipped through his mind with such ease that if he’d been more distracted, he wouldn’t have noticed it.

He loved Tyler, too.

The stakes got higher every time he let his brain do the thinking.

Something must have shown on his face because as he glanced around, his gaze clashed with his mom’s across the aisle and a few rows back looking smugly pleased to see him with Vivian and Ty until she caught his eye.
