“Will you be able to run in this? I don’t think Ghost will be stupid enough to swallow the bait all the way up to your fists.” This concern raised questions in Isabella’s mind as well.

“If I leave it open like this," Liam now showing bits of his man cleavage, "I can pull it off in a matter of seconds.”

“Ghost is pretty fast and strong. I’ve been on top of him and I can testify that he threw me off with ease. And what if he has a weapon?” Dan sounded pessimistic. She wasn’t there when Liam took Ghost the first time they met. Unlike her, Dan had no idea that Liam was more than capable if things got physical.

“I think my military training will be more than sufficient should it come to that,” Liam said in a cool voice. Dan scoffed and was about to say something when Liam cut her off.

“Delta Force training, to be precise.” Liam nodded over to Dan in an even cooler tone now, if that was even possible. Dan closed her mouth, putting an end to any doubt about his abilities.

“You were in the Delta Force?” Liam carefully took off the dress, revealing the t-shirt and shorts he wore underneath.

“Sorry to shatter yourrosyviews about me, but just because someone is good at cooking and doesn’t blow hot air every time he opens his mouth doesn’t mean he's a loser either.” Dan looked like a child that had just been schooled by her teacher.

“What is a Delta Force?” Isabella's brows were drawn together. She had never heard of this Delta Force that has caused Dan to be so speechless for the first time since she’d known her.

“They're one of themost elite military task forces on the planet. Very few survive just to earn the rank. They are trained with a very specific set of skills—counter-terrorism, also known as enemies of the state."

“Oh,” Isabella was impressed. “Like the Spartans?”

Dan nodded. “Exactly like the Spartans. They come back with their shield or on it—no in between.” Isabella looked at the man who literally just moments ago had stood in a dress in front of her. The same man who made pancakes with smiley faces and treated a cat like it was the king of the world. But then she also remembered the man who took out Ghost with one blow and held her in his rock-hard body of steel all night after they made love, so no, she didn’t doubt him to be a Spartan at all.

“I was as lucky as I was young.” Liam folded the dress and placed it on the table. “Those days are behind me now. There are more important things in life to take care of.” He gave Isabella an intense look.

Somehow, she knew what he meant. To come home to someone waiting for him. To start a family. To love, and be loved. All the things her heart craved as much as the flowers craved the sun. She was so busy with everything that had happened that she totally forgot whatgoing homeactually meant. Isabella stared at the man of her dreams, the love of her life. Then her gaze gradually lowered, staring at the floor with empty eyes. When all of this was over, she would never see Liam again.

“Well then. I’m actually confident now that this little stunt of yours will catch that damn Ghost. When do you want to set the trap?” Dan asked.

“Tomorrow,” Isabella heard herself, amazed that she had just said that.

"You might be right." Dan wrinkled her nose. "The sooner the better. This Ghost isn't stupid. Who knows for how much longer he'll be following me around before he starts realizing that it's all a trap.”

Liam didn’t look at her, nor did he do anything to protest. “Great, tomorrow then,” he confirmed in a voice so casually, it sounded as if he was setting up a time for having tea. Did he not understand what this meant? Or did he simply not care? Grew tired of all her time travel drama? Her heart felt crumpled, sinking into itself like a deflating balloon.

“I better go. I don’t want to return home too late or the Ghost might start wondering what I am up to.”

“Of course,” Isabella tried to sound as normal as Liam did as they walked Dan to the door.

“Be ready around nine. That is the usual time him and I start playing cat and mouse. I will text you for confirmation.”

“Ok. You know what to do. I will be waiting on the grass behind the lavatories.” Liam gave Dan an affirmative look.

“Right next to the trees?”

“Yes. This gives him plenty of cover to see me in the dress and hopefully think I'm Isabella. Plus, I can keep an eye on Isabella inside the car from the parking lot right next to the field.”

“I agree. He might actually be smarter than we think. It’s better to have a constant view of her.” Dan turned toward her for a brief moment. Isabella felt a sting in her ear. She didn’t like how they were planning her every move, but it was the most logical thing to do, so there was no reason for her to argue.

As she was about to leave the house, Dan turned to Isabella and looked at her like a mother would look at her own child. Though she rarely showed it, it was obvious that Dan was worried and even sad. The time they had left together would soon come to an end. Isabella wondered, would they still remember her, or would she be forgotten through time? Would she disappear in this timeline like she never existed at all?

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Isabella said, trying to hide her face. Dan nodded and closed the door behind herself. Liam and Isabella stood in the hallway, frozen in place. The quiet around them seemed very loud; it was deafening as they both stared in different directions. Liam turned toward her first, but before he could say something, Isabella started walking toward the bedroom with determined steps.

“I will get some rest now, tomorrow is a big day.” Her voice sounded toneless.

Liam didn’t follow her. She barely made it into the bedroom before the by now all too familiar burning sensation of tears appeared. The thought of never seeing him again was breaking her heart. But there was another thought running through her mind over and over again, slowly eating away at her soul. The thought grew louder and louder until it sounded like her own heartbeat. A thought worse than the nightmare of leaving Liam behind, forever. It was the thought of him not caring that she left.
